Position Summary
Our client is seeking an experienced Safety Manager to lead and strengthen their safety program across a multi-state earthwork construction operation. This position will be responsible for ensuring compliance with applicable OSHA regulations, state and local requirements, company policies, and industry best practices while developing a strong, proactive safety culture across all projects and crews.
The ideal candidate has a strong construction safety background, understands the unique hazards associated with earthwork, grading, excavation, heavy equipment, trucking, and site operations, and is comfortable working directly with field leadership and employees.
This is a hands-on role for someone who can do more than identify safety issues. The successful manager will be expected to be a partner for the field, build safety systems, establish repeatable processes, develop training programs, measure performance, and hold the organization accountable for safe operations.
Essential Job Functions & Responsibilities:Safety Compliance &
Risk Management:
- Lead the company's safety program across multiple states and job sites
- Ensure compliance with OSHA regulations, state-specific safety requirements, and applicable federal, state, and local regulations
- Maintain and continuously improve company safety policies, procedures, programs, and documentation
- Conduct regular job-site safety inspections, audits, and risk assessments
- Identify hazards and develop practical corrective and preventive measures
- Partner with project managers, superintendents, foremen, and maintenance team to address safety concerns
- Monitor regulatory changes and communicate relevant requirements to company leadership and field personnel
- Support incident investigations, root-cause analysis, corrective actions, and follow-up
- Maintain accurate safety records, inspections, training documentation, and required reports
- Build and implement scalable safety systems that can be consistently used across multiple projects and state
- Refine standardized safety processes, forms, checklists, inspection procedures, and reporting systems
- Establish clear accountability for safety at every level of the organization
- Evaluation and action on leading and lagging safety metrics and provide regular reporting to leadership
- Identify opportunities to improve safety performance through process improvement, technology, training, and field engagement
- Help integrate safety requirements into project planning, mobilization, equipment operations, and daily field activities
- Evaluate and manage company-wide recurring safety training program; provide adjustments and recommendations when applicable
- Develop project-specific safety training programs and partner with field leadership to ensure engagement
- Conduct new-hire safety orientations and project kick-off safety training
- Develop toolbox talks, tailgate training, and supervisor/foreman safety training
- Train employees and supervisors on topics including excavation and trenching, heavy equipment, traffic control, PPE, fall protection, lockout/tagout, hazard communication, heat illness prevention, and other applicable construction hazards
- Develop supervisors and field leaders into effective safety leaders
- Promote employee engagement and ownership of safety
- Maintain training records and ensure required certifications and refresher training remain current
