General Definition:
Responsible for helping the Clerk of Scales on operations in regards to the jockeys' room and jockeys.
Essential Job Functions:- Answers phones
- Takes entries in booth
- Registers foal papers & silks
- Inputs foal papers & silks in computer
- Ensures every horse has a rider, there are no double riders and all apprentice riders are denoted
- Assists with the draw
- Maintains & updates list of jockeys, jockey agents, phone number & weight for the condition book
- Cross checks race PP's with Racing Form and Equibase for any inaccuracies
- Checks "workout rule" on every horse entered and notifies trainers of any problems.
- Informs Racing Secretary of horses who need workouts; maintains updated list.
- Assists the Clerk of Scales
- Weighs Jockeys when Clerk of Scales is unavailable.
- Ensures all Jockey's are in the correct silks, arm numbers & on time to saddling paddock
- Generates a schedule for valets saddling in paddock
- Other duties as assigned.
Education:
- High school diploma or general education degree (GED); and 2 years related experience and/or training; or combination.
- Must be knowledgeable of the Rules of Racing.
- Able to work at a fast pace in often crowded/noisy environment
- Excellent customer service/communication skills
- Must meet professional appearance standards as prescribed by company policy.
- Ability to read and interpret documents in English, such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals.
- Ability to read and communicate verbally in English.
- Written communication skills in English may also be required.
- 2 year work related experience and/or training; or combination.
- Must be able to pass a background check and receive a license or permit from any Regulatory Agency, if applicable to perform the essential job functions
- Texas Racing Commission License (TXRC)

- Noise levels will be varied from moderate to heavy machinery
