Responsibilities- Provide consultation to administrators, teachers, staff, students, and parents regarding academic, personal-social needs of students.
- Collaborate with campus RTL and SST teams to facilitate interventions or strategies that remove barriers to academic success.
- Oversee the implementation of campus-level character and behavior education and intervention programs.
- Collaborate with teachers to incorporate guidance-related information into the curriculum.
- Plan and implement school guidance and counseling programs to meet identified needs.
- Teach school development guidance curriculum to students.
- Provide individual and/or group counseling for students in need.
- Maintain regular on-site attendance and a valid referral process for special programs or services.
- Model professional, ethical, and responsible behavior.
- Maintain student data records and communicate data to students, teachers, and parents as needed.
- Assist teachers and students in designing and supporting behavior management plans.
- Assist students and parents with transitions to middle school and high school.
- Comply with federal and state laws, State Board of Education rules, and board policy in guidance and counseling.
- Maintain positive relationships with administration, staff, students, and parents.
Education/
Certifications:
Bachelor’s degree from a four-year college or university;
Master’s degree preferred;
Valid Texas Counseling certificate (or equivalent) required.
Knowledge &
Skills:
Ability to read and interpret documents; write reports and correspondence; speak effectively before groups; use Microsoft Office for communications; apply problem-solving approaches; knowledge of counseling procedures, student appraisal, and career development; excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills; ability to instruct students and manage behavior; ability to manage stressful situations; high level of confidentiality and discretion.
Preferred Experience: Prior classroom teaching experience.
