Job Description Position Summary

The School Leadership Specialist is responsible for providing targeted, content-specific instructional support to campuses to ensure high-quality Tier 1 instruction, effective intervention, and improved student outcomes.

This role serves as the district's instructional problem solver by identifying why instruction is not producing desired student outcomes and providing immediate, job-embedded support to improve classroom practice. School Leadership Specialists work directly with teachers through modeling, coaching, co‑teaching, and instructional analysis to strengthen daily instruction while maintaining alignment with district curriculum and instructional expectations.

This position is not responsible for curriculum development, principal coaching, or system‑level MTSS leadership. Instead, the specialist provides direct classroom support that accelerates teacher effectiveness and student achievement.

Primary Responsibilities
  • Instructional Diagnosis

Conduct deep instructional analysis to identify barriers to effective teaching and learning by:

    • Analyzing classroom instruction to identify gaps in Tier 1 instruction.
    • Determining alignment between classroom instruction and High-Quality Instructional Materials (HQIM).
    • Identifying weaknesses in lesson execution, questioning strategies, student engagement, and rigor.
    • Analyzing student work and classroom tasks to determine instructional effectiveness.
    • Providing actionable recommendations for immediate instructional improvement.

This work extends beyond classroom walkthroughs and focuses on diagnosing root causes of instructional challenges.

  • Targeted Teacher Support

Provide job‑embedded coaching that results in measurable improvements in instructional practice by:

    • Modeling high‑quality lessons.
    • Co‑teaching alongside classroom teachers.
    • Supporting teachers during lesson planning and implementation.
    • Coaching teachers on effective small‑group instruction.
    • Supporting effective reteach strategies based on student performance.
    • Providing individualized coaching aligned to campus priorities.

This position delivers coaching within classrooms rather than through stand‑alone professional development sessions.

  • PLC Support (Content‑Specific)

    Strengthen collaborative planning by:

    • Facilitating standards‑based conversations during Professional Learning Communities (PLCs).
    • Guiding teams through student work analysis.
    • Supporting data‑driven instructional planning.
    • Assisting teachers in developing targeted reteach plans.
    • Ensuring PLCs focus on instructional decision‑making rather than compliance.
  • Intervention Effectiveness

Partner with campus MTSS teams to improve instructional intervention by:

    • Monitoring the quality of instructional interventions.
    • Ensuring intervention groups align to identified student needs.
    • Supporting teachers in delivering effective intervention instruction.

Connecting Tier 1 instructional improvements with intervention efforts.
    • Using student performance data to refine instructional responses.
  • HQIM Fidelity

Ensure effective implementation of district instructional materials by:

    • Monitoring classroom implementation of district‑adopted curriculum.
    • Identifying instructional deviations from HQIM expectations.
    • Coaching teachers toward effective implementation of programs such as Amplify, Carnegie Learning, and other district‑approved instructional resources.
    • Supporting consistent implementation of district instructional frameworks.
