Within and additional to the responsibilities of the Manufacturing Engineer, demonstrate and mentor the systematic approach of the M.E. System in its framework of Process Planning, Plan Execution, and Continuous Improvement as it pertains to the automation of manufacturing processes within the facilities. Align with the plant management team on expected Automation System capabilities progression within the Manufacturing Engineering Department first, then other departments.
Mentor and support the plant Manufacturing Engineering team toward this alignment, and visually manage the current state vs. planned state. Support and in some cases lead various process automation projects at various DC manufacturing locations. Through this process lead the development of champions at the facilities with end in mind of them being capable of leading future automation projects within.
Nature and Scope
:
- The Automation Engineer must first demonstrate capabilities within the Automation System through practice of the respective processes with a mentor. The capabilities progression criterion are defined and measurable. The requirement for this position is to progress to capable-to-mentor stage.
- Once capable to mentor, will establish mentor-mentee relationships within the facilities M.E. Departments. first, then with other departments in the facility as prioritized by facility leadership.
- Will develop mentees toward capable to mentor for respective processes to ensure the facility has depth in Automation System capabilities.
- Support startup of automation projects at the various DC facilities from procurement to validation that align with the overall DC group initiatives.
Specific Accountabilities
- 3-10 years minimum experience as a Manufacturing or Automation Engineer working in a similar industry.
Demonstrated experience:
- Launch management - demonstrated experience with structured APQP process - Project management - history of successful development and management of project plans for new cell launch in a manufacturing environment.
- Demonstrated ability to take a product from drawing stage through deployment readiness validation as lead engineer for the project.
- Demonstrated ability to interact with highly computerized systems through code development, system standards development, and system integration.
- Demonstrated ability to lead improvement initiatives toward meeting target process conditions.
- Demonstrated ability to apply the scientific method at real place with real thing toward real facts.
- Demonstrated understanding of robotics (6 axis, AGM/AMR, etc.), PLC programming, code development, machine logic, and SLAM (simultaneous localization and mapping) technology.
- Ideally has experience using a mentor-mentee coaching pattern such as the 5Q kata.
- Work history within a facility that uses operationalized lean processes.
EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS

- BSME, BSEE, or BSIE required
