Overview
As a member of the continuous improvement team, oversee the operation of cutting-edge automation systems within our 355,000 sq ft pharmaceutical returns warehouse. This role is critical in enhancing operational efficiency and accuracy through the ongoing optimization of advanced technologies.
Operates and troubleshoots automation systems, components, or circuits for use within a warehouse environment. May use computer-assisted engineering and design software and equipment to perform assignments. Applies principles and techniques of mechanical, electrical, or controls engineering to improve equipment reliability and institute innovative solutions and technology to accomplish company goals. Rely on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals. Works alone or as a team member to manage projects from conception to execution.
A wide degree of creativity and latitude is expected.
- Responsible for the ongoing operation and optimization of installed automation systems, identifying and implementing improvements in methods, procedures, technology, equipment, or workflow to increase throughput and/or accuracy.
- Utilize schematics, drawings, wiring diagrams and instruction manuals to troubleshoot, repair, and optimize mechanical, electrical, and electronic control systems.
- Utilize DMM, ammeter and oscilloscope and other engineering tools to troubleshoot and repair electronic equipment, controls and automation.
- Troubleshoot existing equipment including PLCs with associated I/O and communications, servo drive systems, motion control systems, wiring/cabling, and other electronics commonly found in manufacturing environments.
- Utilize latest software and automation devices and equipment to develop creative solutions to support operational needs.
- Perform multivariable analysis on machine cycle time, yield, OEE, failures, and other relevant metrics to the operation.
- Facilitate FMEA workshops with cross-functional groups to drive continuous improvement in the automation operation.
- Support the integration, modification, and enhancements of the Warehouse Execution System (MES) in its applications with the installed automations.
- Mitigate the impact of automation downtime with root-cause analysis and timely fixes.
- Commission and fine tune control systems, working individually or as a member of a team of other engineers, technicians, and contractors.
- Serve as the POC with tech support (internally with techops, externally with vendors) and communicate with vendor tech support to expedite solutions.
- Facilitate all preventive maintenance on installed automation.
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering (e.g., Electrical, Mechanical, Industrial).
- 4-7 years of experience in controls engineering, automation engineering, or a related field.
- Proven experience with the process engineering of large-scale warehouse automation systems (e.g., ASRS, conveyance, sortation).
- Strong knowledge of PLC programming (e.g., Rockwell, Siemens) and HMI/SCADA systems.
- Experience with vision systems, robotics, and other AI-driven automation is a plus.
