Job Description Summary

The Operations Supervisor supervises dock operations and off‑hours Customer Service.

Critical Job Functions
  • Supervises and coordinates dock operations and personnel, including load planning, local and line haul deliveries, equipment and contractor utilization, OS&D procedures, sales, rating, billing, customer service, employee payroll, and office operations.
  • Maintains a clean, safe work environment.
  • Assists with all service center and employee safety issues and compliance with governmental regulations.
  • Assists local and line haul contractors with coordinating loading and unloading, equipment lease agreements, DOT qualifications, manifest approval, deliveries, and operational procedures.
  • Ensures load quality, timely data entry, paperwork procedures, and freight security and routing.
  • Reviews daily service center operating costs to manage profitability and budget attainment.
  • Provides supervision to staff through motivation, direction, performance review, and feedback.
  • Participates in proactive team efforts to achieve departmental and company goals.
  • Provides leadership through example and knowledge sharing.
  • Tracks and updates freight information and paperwork.
  • Assists with various positions and forklift operations in the absence of employees.
  • Receives general guidance with respect to overall objectives; work is largely independent and follows division or department policy guidelines using independent judgment to achieve assigned objectives.
Job Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree (B.A.) from a four‑year college or university; or one to two years of related experience/training; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficiency in personal computer skills including electronic mail, record keeping, routine database activity, word processing, spreadsheets, graphics, etc.
  • Knowledge of AS/400 preferred.
  • Experience supervising the selection, training, development, and appraisal of personnel.
  • Typing, filing, and key skills proficiency.
  • Ability to calculate figures such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume.
  • Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.
  • Hazardous Materials Handling certified.
  • Forklift certified.
  • Problem‑solving skills in varied, minimally standardized situations.
  • Interpretation of a variety of written, oral, diagrammatic, or schedule-based instructions.
  • Task prioritization, organization, and delegation skills.
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks and projects simultaneously.

  • Physical Demands:
    • Heavy physical activity involving strenuous daily tasks with a primarily productive/technical nature.
    • Requirements to sit, stand, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch, and lift up to 100 lb.
    • Exposure to environmental hazards such as dust, noise, weather conditions, and chemical fumes.
  • Work Environment:
    • Operational setting includes both indoor and outdoor areas with machinery and forklifts operating outside the building.
    • Work may occur in wet or humid conditions and in areas prone to environmental interference.
    • Work environment is dynamic, involving mechanical, electrical, and manufacturing tasks.
Compensation
  • The compensation for this role is $60,000 to $65,000 per year.
