Utility Assistant – Converting Plant (Grand Prairie, TX)
Printpack is seeking a qualified candidate to fill the position of Utility Assistant for the Converting plant in Grand Prairie, TX. The Utility Assistant provides essential support to the operations by performing various tasks including equipment operation and support in the following departments (Rewinding / Press / Extrusion / RSI / Finishing / Lamination and Material Handling (forklift)). This role requires flexibility and the ability to perform multiple functions to ensure continuous production flow.
The position reports to the Shift Supervisor and will be a 12‑hour night shift on a 3/2 rotating schedule (Sun/Wed/Thurs; Mon/Tues/Fri/Sat) from 7pm‑7am.
- Operate and adjust various machines during operator breaks to maintain production continuity.
- Prepare and stage materials for equipment operations.
- Ensure proper machine setup.
- Conduct routine safety inspections of equipment and work areas.
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of the work environment.
- Monitor product quality and perform quality checks.
- Execute rework operations as needed to meet quality standards.
- Support production team members in various capacities.
- Assist in material handling and inventory management.
- Maintain compliance with safety protocols and procedures.
Demonstrated stable work history; manufacturing experience preferred.

- Problem‑solving and troubleshooting capabilities.
- Basic computer proficiency, including email.
- Ability to accurately read and use measuring tools.
- Strong attention to detail.
- Effective communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Basic troubleshooting skills.
- Basic mathematical skills.
- Understanding of production processes and basic machine operations.
- Familiarity with safety protocols.
- Strong time‑management capabilities.
- Ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
- Must be 18 years or older.
- Must pass pre‑employment assessments.
- Drug screening required.
- Background check required.
- Forklift certification or ability to obtain forklift and pallet jack certification.
- Must demonstrate core values and be in good standing with no disciplinary action or attendance issues.
- Must have a performer or higher rating in the last review.
- Demonstrated sense of urgency in production recovery situations.
- Capable of lifting and moving up to 50 pounds.
- Ability to climb, kneel, bend, and squat.
- Proficient in grasping, pushing, pulling, and fine motor skills.
- Capacity to stand and walk for extended periods.
- Ability to climb ladders safely.
- Ability to wear required PPE (hearing protection, steel‑toe shoes, safety glasses).
- Noise levels above 80dB.
- Operation of complex machinery.
- Exposure to solvents, fumes, and inks.
- Variable temperatures.
- Flexible shifts; may require nights, weekends, and holidays.
Night Shift premium: $2.50/hr for hours worked between 7pm‑7am.
