PPG Aerospace's Transparencies Division designs and manufactures advanced aircraft transparencies, including canopies, windows, windshields, and specialty transparencies used on military and commercial aircraft. Our products are precision aerospace components that require strict adherence to engineering, quality, and regulatory standards.

The PPG Aerospace Quality Technician supports the manufacture of these products by ensuring materials, processes, and finished assemblies meet engineering drawings, customer requirements, and AS9100 quality standards. This role is focused on inspection, compliance, and quality control within an aerospace manufacturing environment.

Primary Responsibilities
  • Perform in-process, final, and receiving inspections of aerospace transparency components and assemblies
  • Inspect to engineering drawings, specifications, and quality requirements
  • Verify compliance with AS9100, customer, and regulatory standards
  • Perform and document First Article Inspections (FAI) per AS9102
  • Conduct dimensional and visual inspections using precision measurement tools
  • Identify, document, and process nonconforming material in accordance with quality procedures
  • Support root cause analysis and corrective actions
  • Review manufacturing and inspection documentation for accuracy and completeness
  • Maintain quality records in electronic quality systems
  • Support internal, customer, and regulatory audits
  • Ensure adherence to ITAR and export control requirements

Experience in aerospace quality, inspection, or manufacturing quality assurance

  • Strong ability to read and interpret:
    • Engineering drawings
    • GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing)
    • Customer and internal specifications
  • Working knowledge of AS9100 quality management system requirements
  • Experience performing or supporting:
    • First Article Inspection Reports (FAIR / AS9102)
    • Nonconformance documentation and MRB processes
    • Proficiency with common inspection tools, including:
      • Calipers, micrometers, height gauges
      • Indicators, thread gauges, bore gauges
    • Basic knowledge of SPC and statistical concepts
    • Strong attention to detail and documentation accuracy
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with aircraft transparencies, composites, structures, or assemblies
  • Experience using CMM or advanced measurement systems
  • Familiarity with:
    • Root cause analysis tools (5 Why, Fishbone)
    • Corrective and preventive action (CAPA)
    • Experience supporting customer or regulatory audits
    • Experience with SAP or other manufacturing quality systems
    • Prior work in an aerospace or defense manufacturing environment
Education
  • High School Diploma or GED required
  • Technical certification, associate degree, or aerospace quality training preferred

Work Environment Requirements
  • Work performed in a manufacturing and inspection environment
  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, and perform detailed inspections for extended periods
  • Ability to read fine print, drawings, and measurement scales
  • Ability to lift, move, and transfer aircraft transparencies (including canopies and windows) between inspection tables, carts, and workstations, with or without assistance, in accordance with safety procedures
  • Use of appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) as required
