Traffic Signal Technician
Join the City of Grand Prairie as a Traffic Signal Technician and play a vital role in keeping our roads safe and efficient! In this dynamic position, you'll maintain and repair traffic signals, roadway lighting, and fiber optic systems, ensuring smooth traffic flow and public safety. Essential Job Functions:
- Performs traffic signal and roadway lighting maintenance and repair by completing scheduled maintenance and repair; and completing emergency repairs as needed.
- Installs and maintains fiber optic equipment by installing, maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing fiber optic equipment, video equipment, and systems utilizing sophisticated electronic test equipment.
- Performs signal installations and programming by installing traffic signals, school flashers, and flood warning devices; replacing major components; and programming controllers.
- Ensures proper traffic signal operation by manually controlling signals for special functions like: unusual circumstances such as vehicle damage and emergency traffic control during natural disasters.
- Updates technical knowledge of current advances within the field by receiving training on all aspects of work areas including: fiber optics, new products, and how to troubleshoot and perform repairs correctly.
- Trains employees by ensuring that all new Level I employees can properly maintain and repair small problems in cabinets and change bulbs in field signals.
- All other duties as assigned by a supervisor/manager within your department/division.
- Regular and consistent attendance and punctuality for the assigned work hours is essential.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Education: Training beyond high school. Could include some college hours, technical school, or correspondence course.
- Experience: 1-2 years of related experience.
- Licenses: Valid CDL Class A Driver's License required within first 2 years of employment.
- Certifications Required: A current valid TX Class C Driver's License is required with the ability to obtain a TX Class A Commercial Driver's License within two years.
