About this RoleNorthstar Energy Solutions is looking for an experienced Heavy Haul Driver to safely transport heavy equipment, oversized loads, construction materials, and utility construction assets to and from job sites, yards, vendors, and project locations. This role supports field operations by ensuring equipment is delivered on time, properly secured, and in full compliance with company policies, DOT regulations, permit requirements, and all applicable federal, state, and local transportation laws.

Schedule: Varies based on project needs; may include early mornings, evenings, weekends, overnight travel, and overtime
- Safely operate heavy haul trucks, lowboys, flatbeds, step decks, RGN trailers, and other tractor-trailer combinations as assigned.
- Transport heavy construction and utility equipment such as excavators, dozers, backhoes, trenchers, digger derricks, bucket trucks, cable pullers, reel trailers, cranes, skid steers, loaders, and other specialized assets.
- Load, unload, chain, bind, flag, and secure equipment and materials in accordance with company standards, DOT regulations, and proper load securement practices.
- Perform pre-trip, en-route, and post-trip inspections of trucks, trailers, equipment, load securement, tires, lights, brakes, hydraulics, and safety equipment.
- Verify load weights, dimensions, route restrictions, permits, escort requirements, and delivery instructions before transport.
- Plan and follow safe routes for oversized or overweight loads, including awareness of bridge limits, height clearances, road restrictions, traffic conditions, and weather impacts.
- Maintain accurate driver logs, inspection reports, fuel records, bills of lading, delivery tickets, permits, and other required transportation documentation.
- Communicate professionally with dispatch, fleet leadership, project managers, foremen, mechanics, vendors, and job site personnel regarding pickup and delivery status.
- Report equipment defects, safety concerns, incidents, delays, route issues, or maintenance needs immediately to the appropriate supervisor.
- Assist with basic equipment movement, yard organization, trailer staging, and general fleet support duties as needed.
- Follow all company safety rules, customer site requirements, OSHA expectations, and utility construction worksite procedures.
- Valid Class A Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with a clean and acceptable driving record.
- Minimum of 2 to 3 years of experience operating commercial tractor-trailers; heavy haul or equipment transport experience strongly preferred.
- Knowledge of DOT regulations, hours-of-service rules, vehicle inspection requirements, and load securement standards.
- Experience loading, unloading, chaining, binding, and transporting heavy equipment safely.
- Ability to read and understand permits, route plans, maps, GPS instructions, delivery paperwork, and basic equipment information.
- Ability to safely operate manual and automatic transmission trucks as required by the fleet.
