Opportunity

We are seeking a Lead Inspector for our Transportation-Construction Management (T-CM) practice in the Grand Rapids, Michigan area. As a Lead Inspector, you will monitor the contractor’s on-site construction activities and inspect materials to ensure compliance with plans, specifications, and other contract documents. The ideal candidate will possess strong communication skills, be a team player, enthusiastic, motivated, honest, and dependable.

• Maintain detailed records of the contractor’s daily operations including manpower, equipment, construction methods, and events that affect the work
• Monitor the work zone traffic control plan and identify discrepancies and potential issues
• Monitor the erosion control plan and identify discrepancies and potential issues
• Perform sampling and testing of component materials and completed work
• Verify the dimensions of prepared and completed work
• Inspect the construction work and conduct field tests
• Track/measure completed work quantities for payment
• Perform survey checks
• Manage the team of inspectors, coordinate their schedules, and oversee their work and records

• Have a high school diploma or equivalent and 10 years of relevant experience.
• Have experience in construction inspection, including exposure to bridge and/or roadway construction inspection, or a degree in civil engineering.
• Have supervised multiple inspectors and been directly responsible for all inspection requirements related to the assigned construction operations.
• Have current MDOT certifications.
• Have a valid driver’s license, be insurable, and be able to safely operate a vehicle on the highway and on construction sites.
• Have a passion for working outside and a tolerance for exposure to the elements.
• Possess advanced organizational, problem‑solving, prioritization, communication, and leadership skills.
• Have the ability to effectively interact with and build relationships with others.
