Construction Superintendent
The Construction Superintendent oversees ground-up and renovation projects across commercial, industrial, multifamily, and mixed-use sectors. This role manages all phases of construction from preconstruction through project completion, with a strong focus on quality control, scheduling, coordination, and safety. The Superintendent leads on-site activities, ensures all trades follow project plans, specifications, scopes, and timelines, and maintains a safe, efficient, and well-organized jobsite.
Responsibilities- Oversee all on-site construction activities for ground-up and renovation projects in commercial, industrial, multifamily, mixed-use, retail, and residential construction environments.
- Manage projects from preconstruction through completion, ensuring alignment with project plans, specifications, scopes of work, and established timelines.
- Coordinate and supervise all trades and subcontractors on site to ensure efficient workflow, quality workmanship, and adherence to project schedules.
- Maintain a strong emphasis on quality control by regularly inspecting work in progress and completed work to verify compliance with plans, codes, and standards.
- Develop, monitor, and update construction schedules, adjusting resources and sequencing as needed to keep projects on track.
- Enforce construction safety standards on site, including OSHA requirements, and promote a culture of safety among all workers and subcontractors.
- Conduct regular site inspections to identify potential issues related to safety, quality, or schedule and implement corrective actions promptly.
- Interpret and work from blueprints, drawings, and specifications to guide field activities and resolve construction-related questions.
- Oversee site construction activities such as concrete work and other structural components, ensuring proper techniques and quality.
- Communicate effectively with project stakeholders, including project management and field teams, to provide updates on progress, challenges, and milestones.
- Support multiple project types and wear multiple hats as needed within a smaller company environment, contributing to both field operations and coordination tasks.
- At least 3+ years of overall construction experience.
- At least 3+ years of commercial construction experience.
- Proven experience as a construction superintendent or in a similar construction supervision role.
- Strong background in commercial construction and construction management.
- Hands-on experience with ground-up construction and renovation projects.
- Ability to supervise and coordinate multiple trades and subcontractors on active jobsites.
- Solid understanding of construction safety practices and principles, including OSHA standards.
- Proficiency in reading and interpreting blueprints, drawings, and specifications.
- Experience with site construction activities, including concrete and structural work.
- Demonstrated ability to manage schedules, coordinate activities, and maintain project timelines.
- Strong inspection and quality control skills to ensure work meets project and code requirements.
Skills & Qualifications
- Industrial project experience is a plus.
- Experience with multifamily and mixed-use projects is beneficial.
- Background in retail and residential construction environments is advantageous.
- Familiarity with OSHA 30 standards or certification is highly valued.
- Experience in project management within construction settings.
- Ability to thrive in a smaller company environment and comfortably wear multiple hats.
- Strong communication and organizational skills to manage on-site operations effectively.
This role supports local projects in West Michigan, with current work located in areas such as Holland, Grand Haven, and Muskegon. The position is field-based and centered on active construction sites, including commercial, industrial, multifamily, mixed-use, retail, and residential projects.
