Job Description

The Transportation Division of AECOM is actively seeking a creative, highly talented Construction Field Inspector for immediate employment in the Grand Rapids, MI office. This position provides the opportunity to work on large, unique, and complex transportation projects in Michigan and throughout the country.

The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:

  • Field inspection and oversight of transportation construction projects including bridges, roads, traffic signals, signage, ITS and underground facilities.
  • Monitor and record the work and progress of contractors, while tracking material quality and usage using Field Book and Project Wise.
  • Verify that traffic control measures are implemented and maintained during construction.
  • Maintain communication between AECOM supervisors and peers, MDOT and local agency personnel, contractor personnel and the general public.
  • May assist with training entry‑level employees.
  • Perform NPDES inspections.
Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • HS + 4 years of relevant experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education.
  • MVR check required.
  • MDOT certifications are required or must be earned within 6 months of beginning employment.
  • Weekend and night work will be required.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Relies on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals.
  • Responsible for setting own project deadlines.
  • Thorough understanding of construction principles and practices.
  • Ability to document any and all relevant events, issues and variances.
  • Good active written and verbal communication with construction personnel and engineers.
  • Ability to read and understand construction plans and specifications.
  • Provides on‑the‑job training to new employees.
  • Responsible for monitoring conformance to quality, performance, specifications, and/or code requirements by performing inspection duties.
  • Performs daily field inspections and maintains inspection records.
  • Participates in punch lists, testing, and commissioning.
