The Youth Choir Director is a part-time, on-site role based in Grand Rapids, MI. This position is responsible for planning and leading rehearsals for youth choirs, teaching vocal technique and music theory, and preparing singers for performances throughout the season. The Director will select appropriate repertoire, arrange parts as needed, and ensure rehearsals are engaging, age-appropriate, and aligned with the organization’s mission.

Day-to-day tasks include collaborating with staff and families on scheduling and communication, organizing concerts and events, and maintaining a supportive environment that fosters musical growth, confidence, and teamwork. The role also includes basic administrative duties such as tracking attendance, coordinating accompanists and volunteers, and supporting outreach efforts to grow participation in the choirs.

• Demonstrated ability to work effectively with youth, fostering a positive, inclusive, and encouraging learning environment.
• Strong foundation in Music Theory and general Music knowledge applicable to youth choral programs.
• Experience in Music Education, including teaching or directing choirs, voice, or classroom music for children or adolescents.
• Background in Church Music or community choral settings that supports working within diverse performance venues and traditions.
• Piano skills sufficient to rehearse, accompany, or support vocal warm-ups and music learning.
• Excellent rehearsal planning, organizational, and communication skills, including clear conducting and instruction.
• Prior experience directing choirs or vocal ensembles is strongly preferred; experience with treble or youth voices is a plus.
• Bachelor's degree in Music, Music Education, or a related field, or equivalent combination of training and relevant experience.
• Availability for regular rehearsals, performances, and occasional evening or weekend events as required by the program schedule.
