POSITION SUMMARYThe Educational Support Services Coordinator leads a Christ-centered, inclusive system of support for students with diverse learning needs rooted in the mission of Grand Rapids Christian Schools to prepare students to be effective servants of Christ in contemporary society. The Coordinator ensures that students receiving educational support services are known, valued, and fully included as image-bearers of God within the classroom and school community.
Additionally, they provide each student with appropriate instruction, learning opportunities, and behavioral support to enable them to flourish in school and in life beyond GRCS. In partnership with families, teachers, and staff, the Coordinator prioritizes the least restrictive environment and practices that widen the circle of welcome for each student.
- Coordinating Student Support Services
- Communicate regularly with parents on student progress, growth, and concerns, honoring families as essential partners in supporting each child
- Develop and implement individualized support plans, including accommodations plans, and standardized testing accommodations
- Team with parents and teachers to determine appropriate course modifications based on data
- Collaborate and consult with teachers to ensure implementation of accommodation and modifications
- Monitor and assess student progress on grade-level standards
- Coordinate and/or interpret benchmark testing (NWEA, AIMS Web, Haggerty Phonemic Awareness, Fountas and Pinnel, and PAST)
- Coordinate interventions for students who require Tier 2 and/or Tier 3 interventions
- Develop individualized and measurable goals and objectives for students, in partnership with general education teachers
- Advocate and plan for academic, social, and behavioral modifications to support students and general education teachers
- Lead transition planning for students transitioning to middle school, including individual transition meetings with families and transition meetings with middle school staff
- Serve on the School Intervention Team with coordinators, school social worker, and administrators to support students within an MTSS framework
- Support Director of Admissions, Principal, and Executive Director of Student Support Services in admissions decisions involving students requiring support services
- Partner with the Executive Director of Student Support Services to ensure that the district philosophy of student support services is consistently articulated and implemented PS-12th grade
- Advocate for students and families by consulting and collaborating with outside agencies as needed
- System Management
- Meet regularly with the Executive Director of Student Support Services to review and assess allocation of resources
- Coordinate with itinerant staff from Grand Rapids Public Schools to ensure services are provided as stated in student IEPs and Non-Public Service Plans
- Coordinate allocation of Title 1 funding in partnership with the principal and business office
- Document and track testing accommodations
- Documentation and communication of individual support plans
- Stay up to date on assistive technology
- Provide professional development to all staff on best practices related to student support services
- Supervisory Responsibilities
- Recruit, train, direct, supervise, and evaluate ESS staff
- Coordinate professional development for ESS staff
- Set direction and support individual and team goals within the ESS team, ensuring clarity in job descriptions, providing feedback, and conducting annual performance reviews
- Maximize individual talents within the team and encourage professional growth and development
