Consistent with the ANA Scope and Standards of Practice for Nursing, under general supervision of Clinical Operations Director and in collaboration with the Clinical Operations Education and Professional Development Team, the Geriatric Clinical Educator is accountable for advancing the medical group’s organizational mission to deliver age-friendly care for older adults. Rooted in the Age-Friendly Health System framework, this role assesses current practices, educates staff, and facilitates change to incorporate the 4 M’s (What Matters, Medication, Mentation, and Mobility) across care settings.
The geriatric clinical educator leads clinical training, workflow improvement, and policy advocacy to support the highest standards of geriatric care. This position is grant funded.

Position SummaryUnder the general supervision of the Clinical Operations Manager, the Clinical Educator is responsible for advancing and maintaining staff competence, enhancing professional practice, and supporting employees in achieving their career goals. This role supports the educational and experiential growth of staff across the novice-to-expert continuum to ensure efficient, effective, ethical, safe, high‑quality, and compassionate patient care.
The Clinical Educator fosters a culture of lifelong learning by developing innovative, engaging continuing education activities; promoting evidence‑based practice; supporting shared leadership; and advancing the professional practice model. This role demonstrates core competency in key clinical service areas.
EducationRequired:
- Graduate of an accredited college nursing program with a minimum of an Associate Degree in Applied Science in Nursing.
Preferred:
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Nursing.
Required:
- Current, unencumbered Registered Nurse (RN) licensure in the state of Michigan.
Preferred:
- Current BLS certification; AHA instructor certification preferred.
Minimum:
- Three (3) or more years of experience caring for older adults/elderly patients in acute or outpatient settings.
- Strong interpersonal, communication, facilitation, and advocacy skills.
- Commitment to evidence-based practice, quality improvement, and interdisciplinary collaboration.
- Proficiency in geriatric clinical knowledge and age‑friendly care strategies.
- Demonstrated experience in clinical education, staff development, and curriculum design.
- Minimum two (2) years of clinical nursing experience in an identified or related specialty, inpatient, or provider office setting.
- One (1) year of teaching experience applying principles of adult education.
- One (1) year of group leadership or group process experience leading to effective outcomes.
- Ability to design innovative educational opportunities to meet evolving learner needs.
- Demonstrated excellence in the roles of nursing professional development educator: educator, facilitator, change agent, consultant, researcher, and leader.
- Extensive theoretical knowledge and practical expertise in clinical specialty.
Preferred:
- Two (2) or more years in an educator or related role in a healthcare setting.
- Experience leading change across departments as an effective change agent.
- Skilled in preparing educational materials and presenting to diverse audiences, both large and small.
- Experience applying adult learning principles.
- Experience teaching others about healthcare principles, evidence‑based practice, policies, and workflow processes.
- Collects data and information related to educational needs and other relevant situations.
- Evaluates progress toward achieving educational outcomes.
- Analyzes issues, trends, and supporting data to determine educational needs of individuals, teams, departments, and communities.
- Identifies target audiences, purpose, learning objectives, and desired outcomes for each educational activity.
- Develops plans outlining strategies, alternatives, and resources needed to achieve learning outcomes.
- Implements planned educational activities and evaluates their effectiveness.
