Odyssey of the Mind Coordinator

Reports to: Building Principal

Salary: Supplemental contract per FHEA Master Agreement

Job Summary
:
An Odyssey of the Mind coordinator facilitates the participation of students in the Odyssey of the Mind program at a school or district level. The Odyssey of the Mind coordinator provides leadership and expertise to coaches and requires dedication, enthusiasm, creativity, and leadership skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience as an Odyssey of the Mind coach
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively as part of a team
  • Experience working with K-12 students

Essential Job Functions:

  • Promoting the Odyssey of the Mind program to students and parents, and explaining its benefits and goals.
  • Recruiting and registering teams of students who are interested in joining the program, and ensuring that they meet the eligibility criteria and deadlines.
  • Recruiting judges as needed.
  • Finding and training coaches who will guide and mentor the teams throughout the creative problem-solving process.
  • Providing support and resources to the teams and coaches, such as problem clarifications, spontaneous practice materials, budget guidelines, paperwork requirements, securing practice space, etc.
  • Communicating with the regional and state Odyssey of the Mind organizations, and staying updated on the latest news and events related to the program.
  • Organizing and hosting local events, such as workshops, trainings, scrimmages, or showcases, to help the teams prepare for the regional and state tournaments.
  • Coordinating the logistics of attending the regional and state tournaments, such as transportation, accommodation, registration fees, etc.
  • Work collaboratively with other coordinators, coaches, volunteers, judges, officials, school/district personnel, vendors and sponsors to ensure a successful and rewarding experience for all participants.
  • The coordinator is also expected to adhere to the Odyssey of the Mind code of conduct and uphold the values and principles of the program.
  • Managing monies/funds according to District policy directly with the building under the direction of the Business Office
  • Consistent and reliable attendance and availability
  • Perform other duties as assigned – job functions may vary depending on the specific needs and expectations of each school

Physical Requirements:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to stand, walk, sit, use hands to finger, handle, or feel, reach with hands and arms, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl, talk, hear (in a quiet or noisy environment). The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 40 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision and ability to adjust/focus.

The noise level in the work environment is usually loud to moderate. Work may be performed indoors and/or outdoors. The employee is directly responsible for the safety, well-being and work output of students. Travel will be required.

Mental Functions:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to compare, analyze, communicate both orally and in writing, copy, coordinate, instruct, compute, synthesize, evaluate, use interpersonal skills, compile and negotiate.

Terms of Employment:

The employee will remain free of any alcohol or drugs throughout his/her employment with the district as outlined in Board Policy #4210.
