Private School Academic Tutor – Title I
Department: Community and Student Affairs

JOB SUMMARY
The academic tutor in the Private Schools is responsible for assisting scholars in the core academics.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONSEssential functions under the Americans with Disabilities Act may include any of the following duties, knowledge, and skills. Regular on time and in person attendance is an essential function of this job. Other essential functions may include, but are not limited to the following:
- Responsible for providing support to identified Title I scholars.
- Responsible for providing a pre-test (or use existing and current data) to each Title I scholar and record data on proper form.
- Collaborate with certified teacher reviewing test results to design appropriate educational programs for eligible scholars.
- Responsible for the scheduling of tutoring sessions in consultation with instruction and/or school staff, so that staff and scholars are assured consistent and coordinated tutoring.
- Responsible for communicating with staff to ensure coordination of Title I program with identified scholars.
- Responsible for approaching scholars with a positive attitude and the expectation that scholars will learn and grow.
- Responsible for making lesson adjustments as needed to help scholars experience success.
- Responsible for appropriate documentation, such as keeping a record of dates, length, and content of each tutoring session.
- Responsible for documenting in a log of how his/her time is spent while on the job.
- Responsible for documenting parent contact.
- Responsible for attending staff meetings and in-services as appropriate.
- Responsible for assisting scholars with homework to improve performance focus on stimulation an improved attitude towards academics.
Required
Education and Experience:
- Must have
- A) completed at least two years of study at an institution of higher education (at least 60 credits);
- B) obtained an associate's or higher degree; or
- C) achieved a passing score on an MDE approved assessment.
- Must provide an official transcript or a Work Keys certificate before final recommendation.
- Current teacher certification is required for the in‑school tutors.
- Experience working with computers required.
- Some positions may require strong technology experience (SMART Board, Document Camera, Read Naturally software, LCD projector), as well as a passion and interest in working with scholars who are struggling with reading and math, primarily in grades 3-8.
- Prefer previous experience working with at‑risk Title I scholars.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Demonstrated ability to respect the confidentiality of scholar information.
- Consistently demonstrate dependable attendance and punctuality.
- Demonstrated ability to deal with scholars, parents, and the public in a tactful and courteous manner.
