WAGE: Salary according to structured schedule based on degree level and certified experience.

JOB SUMMARY: The secondary teacher is responsible for ensuring each scholar is academically and socially ready for college or career and equips all scholars with knowledge, skills, and motivation to direct their lives and become confident, critical thinkers who will contribute to a changing global community. This is accomplished by providing a variety of learning experiences in partnership with the community to meet each student’s needs as defined by their educational plan.
This position reports directly to the assigned building/program principal.
Required
Education and Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree
- Current appropriate Michigan teaching certification
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Demonstrated understanding of current research on how children learn and ability to motivate scholar to perform at their best.
- Ability to work in an economically, culturally, and racially diverse environment.
- Ability to communicate effectively in English, both orally and in writing.
- Ability to differentiate instruction, using a variety of styles, and inspire mixed culture and ability classes by creating challenging and engaging learning opportunities for all scholars.
- Ability to participate as a member of the team.
- Ability to manage a diverse and demanding workload.
- Consistently demonstrate dependable attendance and punctuality.
- Provide scholars with effective instruction in various academic areas; use the Danielson Rubric; differentiate instruction to meet needs of all scholars; incorporate the Tripod 7 Cs into daily practice.
- Teach required curriculum and administer common assessments; effectively maintain and monitor ongoing scholar progress.
- Provide scholars with instruction, modeling, and interventions in behavioral areas.
- Develop detailed, accurate, concise lesson plans for each subject area; plan and provide appropriate supplemental activities to meet group and individual needs of all scholars, including those with special needs.
- Utilize best classroom‑management practices to create a learning environment conducive to learning, curtail disruptive behaviors, and enhance scholars’ self‑esteem.
- Collaborate with special education staff to provide scholars with individualized education programs (IEPs) and appropriate accommodations and supplementary aids.
- Participate in the planning, implementation, and evaluation of strategies for individual and group behavior management and academic goals.
- Participate in and contribute to professional development, implementing strategies learned with fidelity.
- Make and maintain regular, positive contact with parents via phone, email, and/or home visits, including communicating scholar progress.
- Establish and maintain effective written and oral communication and rapport with scholars, parents, and colleagues.
- Participate in parent meetings, including IEPs and Parent/Teacher Conferences.
- Contribute to a positive attitude between the school and the wider community through cooperative relations, publications, competitions, etc.
- Contribute to community service and global citizenship goals.
- Display physical, social, mental, and emotional soundness in order to execute the duties of the job.
- Serve as a role model for all scholars and within the school community.
- Interact with co‑workers, administration, scholars, parents, and the community in positive, supportive, and cooperative ways.
- Encourage team spirit and contribute as a team member in decision‑making processes of the school.
- Attend staff meetings and serve on committees as required.
- Contribute to extracurricular activities such as clubs and academic competitions and school programs.
- Maintain and promote school district goals and objectives.
- Comply with state, federal, and District policies, procedures, rules, and the union contract.
