MATHEMATICS CURRICULUM SUPERVISOR

The Mathematics Curriculum Coordinator serves as the district's leader in mathematics content and pedagogy. The coordinator facilitates curriculum development training, use of the Instructional Model, and continuous development of skills among teachers and administrators. This position reports to the Director of Curriculum.

The Mathematics Curriculum Coordinator serves as the district expert in the field of mathematics regarding teaching and learning, including current trends and research. The coordinator serves as an instructional leader with oversight or curriculum development and updates. They develop and implement a comprehensive plan to support the effective implementation of the curriculum, facilitate the alignment of teaching practices, and resources. They ensure compliance with all state and federal mandates, establish and promote high standards and expectations of academic performance for all students and staff, and ensure that curriculum development and teaching methods support and are applicable for diverse learners.

The coordinator keeps abreast of all new instructional materials and evaluates them for effectiveness, approves the selection of instructional materials and ensures that textbooks go through proper channels of approval. They prepare and submit reports to the Superintendent and the Board of Education relating to the progress and accomplishments in curriculum and instruction development programs. They consistently demonstrate dependable attendance and punctuality.

The Mathematics Curriculum Coordinator facilitates the development of quality curriculum, provides leadership and coordination in the development of curriculum and the implementation of instructional programs of the district, evaluating programs and services on a regular basis to encourage the use of a variety of instructional strategies and materials consistent with research on learning and child growth and development. They ensure that the curriculum aligns with state, national and college readiness standards, keep the curriculum and instruction programs up to date with particular emphasis on evaluating new developments in instruction.

The coordinator plans, implements, and evaluates instructional programs with teachers and principals, including learning objectives, instructional strategies, and assessment techniques. They evaluate and coordinate the selection of instructional materials and equipment, including technology. They ensure vertical and horizontal articulation of skills and content sequence between the preschool, elementary, and secondary programs. They ensure that the instructional programs engage the learner in tasks that require analytical and critical thinking, problem solving, and numeracy and fluency, and addresses each student's needs and skill levels.

The Mathematics Curriculum Coordinator ensures that newly developed curricula are vetted by experts in the field and be knowledgeable of the content area. They ensure that the curriculum design outlines differentiated strategies to meet the needs of ELL students and students who learn in different ways. They ensure that there is a systemic process in place to monitor and evaluate the impact of the curriculum.

They analyze and disaggregate assessment data to examine the effectiveness of the curriculum in addressing the learning needs of all students.

The coordinator revises and modifies curriculum as needed, examines assessments to ensure balance, rigor and alignment to state, national and college readiness standards, and examines instructional materials for alignment and quality. They apply research and data to improve the content, sequence, and outcomes of the teaching learning process. They work with appropriate staff to develop, maintain, and revise curriculum documents based on systematic review and analysis.

They involve instructional staff in evaluating and selecting instructional materials to meet student learning needs.

The Mathematics Curriculum Coordinator ensures the effective use of technology in the teaching-learning process. They plan the necessary time, resources, and materials to support accomplishment of education goals. They ensure that district goals and objectives are developed using collaborative processes and problem-solving techniques when appropriate. They participate in the district-level decision-making process to establish and review the district's goals and objectives and major classroom instructional programs of the district.

The coordinator supervises and trains the instructional coaches when applicable, meets frequently with the instructional coaches and assists in establishing a strategic direction. They work cooperatively and collectively with principals, staff, and other supervisors to ensure that instructional programs and services are coordinated in the schools and are administered uniformly and equitably.
