Elementary Autism Spectrum Disorder – Student Services Coordinator #1 (Two Positions)

8 hours/day, 40 hours/week (Mon-Fri)

Summary

Under the direct supervision of a certified staff member, the Student Services Coordinator #1 is responsible for working as a team member to assist with students in the special education classroom to meet instructional goals and objectives. This person will also have a role in certain non‑instructional and concept/skill reinforcement tasks and providing students the opportunity for additional adult/student relationships.

Education / Qualifications
  • Must possess a high school diploma or its equivalent.
  • 60 credit hours in an accredited university or an Associate's Degree preferred.
  • Experience working with early elementary students with special needs preferred.
  • Bilingual skills helpful.
Duties / Skills / Qualifications
  • Ability to assist the teacher in the instruction to students of academic, social, and motor skills.
  • Assist with organization of daily classroom schedule and activities.
  • Implements rules of student conduct and specific program expectations.
  • Assists students with problem solving when adjustment and academic needs arise.
  • Assists with providing feedback and monitors the classroom when students are working.
  • Ability to assist the teacher with classroom activities outside of classroom instruction.
  • Demonstrated excellent attendance and punctuality.
  • High level of communication and organizational skills.
  • All other duties as assigned by the classroom teacher and administrator.
  • Ability to relate and work effectively with parents, staff, students, and the public in a multicultural and multiracial community.
  • Knowledge and awareness of own cultural identity and how this influences behavior, and desire to learn about the cultural identity of others.
  • Ability to establish and nurture an environment that promotes cultural competence and equitable treatment of staff, students, and patrons of the District.
  • Ability to recognize that each person is a unique individual even as we celebrate their group cultural heritage.
