- Bachelor’s degree
- Current appropriate Michigan teaching certification
- Consistently demonstrate dependable attendance and punctuality.
- Ability to deal with scholars, parents, staff, and community tactfully and courteously.
- Understand current research on how children learn and motivate scholars to perform at their best.
- Work in an economically, culturally, and racially diverse environment.
- Communicate effectively in English, both orally and in writing.
- Differentiated instruction using various styles, inspiring mixed‑culture and ability classes by creating challenging, engaging learning opportunities for all scholars.
- Participate as a member of the team.
- Manage a diverse and demanding workload.
- Provide scholars with effective instruction in the various academic areas; use the Danielson Rubric; differentiate instruction to meet the needs of all scholars; incorporate the Tripod 7 Cs into daily practice.
- Teach the required curriculum and administer common assessments; maintain and monitor ongoing scholar progress.
- Provide scholars with effective instruction, modeling, and interventions in behavioral areas.
- Develop detailed, accurate, and concise lesson plans for each subject area; plan and provide appropriate supplemental activities to meet both group and individual needs, including scholars with special needs.
- Utilize best classroom‑management practices to create a learning environment conducive to learning, curtail disruptive behaviors, and enhance scholars’ self‑esteem.
- Collaborate with special education staff to provide scholars with individualized education programs, appropriate accommodations, and supplementary aids.
- Participate in and contribute to professional development, implementing strategies learned with fidelity.
- Maintain regular, positive contact with parents via phone, email, and/or home visits, communicating scholar progress.
- Establish effective written and oral communication and rapport with scholars, parents, and colleagues.
- Participate in parent meetings, including IEPs and Parent/Teacher Conferences.
- Contribute to positive attitudes between the school and the wider community through cooperative relations, publications, competitions, etc.
- Engage in community service and global citizenship goals.
- Display physical, social, mental, and emotional soundness to execute the duties of the job.
- Serve as a role model for all scholars and within the school community.
- Interact with co‑workers, administration, scholars, parents, and the community positively, supportively, and cooperatively.
- Encourage team spirit and contribute as a team member in decision‑making processes facilitated by the building administrator.
- Attend staff meetings and serve on committees as required.
- Contribute to extra‑curricular activities and school programs, including recess duty as requested.
- Maintain and promote school district goals and objectives.
- Comply with state, federal, and district policies, procedures, rules, and the union contract.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
The employee must stand, walk, sit, and use hands for various tasks, occasionally lift up to 40 pounds. The work environment is indoor with occasional outdoor activities. Noise level is moderate.
