This position requires active monitoring of playground and indoor areas, enforcing school safety rules, and helping students resolve conflicts constructively. The ideal candidate loves working with children, possesses excellent situational awareness, and doesn't mind a little wind, rain, or shine.

Key Responsibilities
  • Maintain active vigilance over assigned playground zones, fields, equipment, and indoor recess rooms.
  • Enforce school rules and playground safety guidelines consistently and fairly.
  • Prevent hazardous play (e.g., roughhousing, throwing rocks, improper use of equipment) and intervene immediately when unsafe behavior occurs.
  • Circulate continuously throughout the designated areas rather than standing in one spot.
  • Assist students in resolving peer conflicts using positive behavior intervention strategies.
  • Promote inclusion and good sportsmanship in organized games like soccer, basketball, and four-square.
  • Identify and address potential bullying or exclusionary behavior promptly.
  • Administer basic first aid for minor scrapes and bumps, and escort students to the school nurse for more serious injuries.
  • Report any safety hazards (broken equipment, debris, strangers near the perimeter) immediately to school administration.
  • Manage transitions by organizing lines and ensuring students return to their classrooms quietly and on time.
Qualifications

Education:

High school diploma or equivalent preferred.

Experience:

Previous experience working with elementary-aged children (e.g., camp counselor, daycare provider, volunteer, or parenting) is highly valued.

Physical Stamina:
Ability to stand, walk, bend, and move quickly for the duration of the shift (typically 2 to 3 hours).

Weather Tolerance:
Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions (heat, cold, light rain, or snow) unless indoor recess is called.

Background Check:
Must successfully pass a criminal background check and fingerprinting.

Preferred Characteristics

Patience and Empathy: A genuine care for children and an understanding of elementary-age development.

Strong Communication:
Ability to speak firmly yet kindly to children and collaborate effectively with teachers and staff.
