Salary

Compensation is determined by a structured salary schedule based on degree level and verified years of licensed or certificated experience. Salary range: $47,854 to $94,408 per year.

Job Summary

The secondary teacher is responsible for ensuring that every scholar is academically and socially ready for college or career and for equipping scholars with knowledge, skills, and motivation that empower them to self‑direct their lives and become confident, critical thinkers who contribute to a changing global community. This is accomplished by providing a variety of learning experiences in partnership with the community to meet each student’s needs as defined by his or her educational plan.

The position reports directly to the assigned building/program principal.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree.
  • Current appropriate Michigan teaching certification.

  • Understanding of current research regarding how children learn and the ability to motivate scholars to perform at their best.
  • Ability to work in an economically, culturally, and racially diverse environment.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English.
  • Ability to differentiate instruction using a variety of styles and inspire mixed‑culture and ability classes by creating challenging and engaging learning opportunities for all scholars.

Essential Job Functions
  • Provide scholars with instruction in the academic areas, using the Danielson Rubric, and differentiate instruction to meet the needs of all scholars; incorporate the Tripod 7 Cs (challenge, control, consolidate, confer, captivate, clarify and care) into daily practice.
  • Teach the required curriculum and administer common assessments; maintain and monitor ongoing scholar progress.
  • Deliver instruction, modelling, and interventions in the behavioral areas.
  • Develop detailed, accurate, and concise lesson plans for each subject area; plan and provide supplemental activities for group and individual needs, including scholars with special needs.
  • Employ “best” classroom‑management practices to foster a learning environment conducive to learning, reduce disruptive behaviors, and enhance self‑esteem.
  • Collaborate with special‑education staff to implement IEPs and appropriate accommodations and supplementary aids.
  • Participate in planning, implementing, and evaluating behavior‑management and academic‑goals strategies.
  • Engage in professional development and implement learned strategies with fidelity.
Parent and Community Engagement
  • Maintain regular contact with parents via calls, email, and home visits to communicate scholar progress.
  • Build effective written and oral rapport with scholars, parents, and colleagues.
  • Participate in parent meetings, including IEP conferences and Parent/Teacher conferences.
  • Promote positive relationships between the school and the wider community through cooperative relations, publications, and competitions.
  • Support community service and global citizenship initiatives.
Other Duties
  • Maintain physical, social, mental, and emotional soundness to perform duties.
  • Serve as a role model for scholars and the school community.
  • Collaborate positively with co‑workers, administration, scholars, parents, and the community.
  • Encourage school team‑spirit and contribute to decision‑making processes.
  • Attend mandatory staff meetings and serve on required committees.
  • Participate in extracurricular activities, clubs, competitions, and school programs.
  • Promote school district goals and objectives.
  • Adhere to state, federal, and district mandates, procedural rules, and the union contract.
  • Consistently demonstrate dependable attendance and punctuality.
  • Other duties as assigned.
