The Grand Rapids Symphony is holding auditions for the full-time position of Principal Horn. The auditions will take place from November 17 to 21, 2026, at DeVos Performance Hall in Grand Rapids, Michigan. Preliminary rounds are scheduled for November 17-19, with semi-finals on November 20 and finals on November 21. Candidates should reserve the entire day for each of these dates until specific times are confirmed based on the number of applicants.
The audition repertoire will be available on the Grand Rapids Symphony website by August 14, 2026. To participate in the audition, candidates must submit a refundable deposit of $100 along with a one-page résumé, postmarked by October 2, 2026. Audition times, maps, and directions will be emailed to candidates by October 16, 2026. It is essential that candidates include their current email address on their résumé, as all communication will be conducted via email.
The position begins on February 2, 2027, or as soon as the selected candidate's availability aligns with the Grand Rapids Symphony's schedule. The season runs from September 6, 2026, to May 15, 2027, with additional summer weeks from June 27 to July 24, 2027.
Benefits include a minimum annual salary of $62,440, paid vacation, 401K contributions, instrument insurance, and medical coverage.
