Position: Long-Term Substitute Teacher (travel required)

Integrity Educational Services is currently seeking a Long-Term Substitute Teacher (certified or uncertified) to serve Lighthouse Academy district. Candidates for this position can be already-certified teachers, or candidates with at least 60 post-secondary credit hours with a 2.0 GPA or higher.

Coverage will be needed at Lighthouse Eagle Village (Hersey, MI) to begin, but will also be asked to cover teacher absences as needed at other Lighthouse Academy sites including community, residential, and/or juvenile detention programs in West Michigan.

IES is the non-profit educational service provider for Hope Academy of West Michigan and Lighthouse Academy.

At our Lighthouse Academy locations, we offer residential programs serving youth and adults in detention facilities, correctional facilities or intervention-based programs as well as community programs serving court-placed students,

English Language Learners (ELL), students with Special Education needs, etc.

GENERAL

PURPOSE:

Responsible for providing appropriate education experiences to meet the needs of youth enrolled in our district. The Long-Term Substitute Teacher or Teacher in Residence is accountable to the Principal and functions as a member of the IES team, which consists of classroom teachers, instructional support staff, school social workers, the principal, and the office staff. Long Term Substitute may be responsible for Lesson Planning.

ESSENTIAL

FUNCTIONS
  • 1. The strong desire and ability to achieve outstanding student achievement results in a short amount of time and commit to the relentless pursuit of increasing student learning.
  • 2. The skill and willingness to leverage the student support network to ensure that students’ social, emotional, nutritional and health needs are addressed.
  • 3. The ability to motivate students and influence their behaviors through building meaningful and caring relationships with students in order to exert academic influence.
  • 4. When completing a Long-Term assignment, the ability to collaboratively create and execute clear and logical instructional plans that produce strong results in student learning while receiving input from other team members. When completing a Long-Term assignment, the competence to design and utilize formative assessments to modify and adjust instruction on a daily basis.
  • 5. The ability to successfully engage at-risk youth as well as cultural awareness and sensitivity to both students and staff members.
  • 6. The ability to help create and thrive in a professional environment that is one of mutual respect, teamwork, and accountability.
  • 7. The ability to seek out knowledgeable peers, coaches or administrators for instructional support in the never-ending quest to deliver the vision of high-quality subject-specific instruction in every class period.
  • 8. Assist with coverage of the eating areas during breakfast and lunch, if applicable. Assist with coverage during arrival, passing and dismissal times at school.
  • 9. When completing a Long-Term assignment, actively participate in and contribute to weekly team meetings with all school staff examining student’s educational, advocacy or support needs.
  • 10. When completing a Long-Term assignment, the competence to collect and analyze student data.
  • 11. Perform all other duties as assigned.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

Qualifications

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, ability or competence required.

Education and/or Experience

Minimum of 2 years of study at an institution of higher education (equal to 60 semester hours), or, obtain an Associate's Degree (or higher). Experience working with youth and/or families.
