Special Education Director/Teacher
The Special Education Director leads the Special Education department at CHS Grand Rapids as both a special education teacher and department head. Primary responsibilities include managing caseload of special education students, providing academic support, advising general education teachers, coordinating testing accommodations, submitting required reports, reviewing special education documents, drafting corrective action plans, supervising special education personnel, monitoring the special education program, participating in dispute resolution, maintaining student files, delivering training, collaborating with school staff, staying informed of legal requirements, attending meetings, and overseeing special education services by outside providers.
Essential traits include the ability to work collaboratively and independently, strong communication skills, high organization, attention to detail, and knowledge of special education software. Qualifications include a Michigan special education teaching certificate, experience as a classroom teacher in special education, special education supervisor authorization, special education leadership experience, and a master's degree in special education or teacher consultant endorsement. Satisfactory completion of a criminal history check is also required.
