Special Education Director/Teacher
The Special Education Director leads the Special Education department at CHS Grand Rapids as both a special education teacher and department head. Primary responsibilities include managing caseload of special education students, providing academic support, advising general education teachers, coordinating testing accommodations, submitting required reports, reviewing special education documents, drafting corrective action plans, supervising special education personnel, monitoring the special education program, participating in dispute resolution, maintaining student files, delivering training, collaborating with school staff, staying informed of legal requirements, attending meetings, and overseeing outside service providers.
Essential traits, skills, and abilities include the ability to work collaboratively and independently, strong written and verbal communication skills, high organization, attention to detail, proficiency with special education software, and knowledge of special education procedures.
Qualifications include a Michigan special education teaching certificate, successful experience as a classroom teacher in special education, special education supervisor authorization preferred, special education leadership experience preferred, master's degree in special education and/or teacher consultant endorsement preferred, and satisfactory completion of criminal history check.
