About OLLI at SVSU:
The Osher Lifelong Learning Institute (OLLI) at SVSU offers non-credit courses, lectures, and events designed for adults aged 50 and better who are eager to continue learning in a relaxed, engaging environment. Our instructors are passionate individuals from a variety of backgrounds—retired professionals, educators, artists, historians, hobbyists, and more—who enjoy sharing their knowledge with curious learners.

JOB SUMMARY:

We are seeking enthusiastic and knowledgeable instructors to teach non-credit courses for the OLLI program. Courses typically run 1 to 6 sessions, and cover a wide range of topics including history, science, technology, art, current events, travel, wellness, hobbies, and more.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Deliver engaging and organized in-person or online classes to adult learners.
  • Create a positive, respectful, and inclusive learning environment.
  • Develop course content, materials, and presentations tailored to lifelong learners.
  • Provide class outlines or brief descriptions in advance for promotional materials.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED:

General supervision is received from the OLLI Manager.

SUPERVISION EXERCISED:

Functional supervision is exercised over class members.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Expertise or strong knowledge in a specific subject area.
  • Ability to connect with adult learners in a respectful and engaging manner.
  • Dependable, organized, and enthusiastic about sharing knowledge.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and ability to learn new software quickly.
  • Experience and ability to positively interact with a diverse campus community.
  • Ability to perform the essential duties of the position with or without accommodations.

Compensation:
Instructors are compensated at a rate of $40 per hour for class instruction time only. Preparation time is not included in the compensation.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • Duties are generally performed inside and not exposed to adverse conditions.
  • Teaching may occur in-person, online, or at an approved off-site location.
