Part-Time Instructional Support Paraprofessional

General

Summary:

The Instructional Support Paraprofessional supports student success at Northview Next Career Center by working collaboratively with classroom teachers and the program Director to support students learning and demonstrating academic standards through project based learning, career exploration, and technical skill development. Working alongside instructional staff, this role provides academic assistance, technical lab assistance, helps facilitate students through workforce programs like Jobs for Michigan’s Graduates (JMG), and connects students to post-secondary pathways including GRCC’s MTEC and local job site visits.

Qualifications:

  • Education & Experience:

    High school diploma or equivalent required (Associate degree, college coursework, or formal paraprofessional certification preferred).
  • Technical Aptitude:
    Comfort or experience working with basic digital manufacturing tools (e.g., 3D printers) and automated equipment, with a willingness to learn new technology.
  • Career & Workforce Knowledge:
    Familiarity with workforce development concepts, career pathway coaching, or vocational training options.
  • Student-Centered Engagement:
    Demonstrated ability to build positive relationships, mentor high school students, and adapt to non-traditional, project-based learning environments.
  • Communication & Organization:
    Strong organizational and interpersonal skills to coordinate off-site visits, support lab operations, and collaborate effectively with teachers and community partners.
  • Safety & Mobility:
    Valid driver’s license and a clean driving record required; must be eligible and comfortable operating school vehicles to transport students for off-site visits and program activities.

Essential Job Functions:

  • General Student Supervision:
    Provide attentive, active supervision across the campus to ensure student safety, support a positive school climate, and enforce school guidelines. May occasionally supervise small groups of students when teachers are working 1-1 or with other small groups of students.
  • Technical Lab Support:
    Assist students with hands‑on projects, equipment operation, and safety procedures in specialized spaces, including the 3D Printing Lab and the Smart Automation Certification Alliance (SACA) Lab.
  • Career Coaching & Mentorship:
    Under the direction of classroom teachers, guide students through career exploration coursework, workforce readiness skills, and the Jobs for Michigan’s Graduates (JMG) curriculum.
  • Assist in the facilitation of Work Based Learning activities:
    Facilitate student participation in external career exposure, including conducting job site visits and engaging with partnering community business employers.
  • Academic & Standards-Based Instructional Support:
    Collaborate with certified teachers to support project-based learning initiatives and assist in tracking student progress toward mastery under a standards-based grading framework.

Terms of Employment:

  • As described in the Northview Public Schools Paraprofessional contractual agreement.
  • Work Hours:

    15 hours per week with the flexibility to periodically increase weekly hours as building needs dictate. Schedule to be collaboratively determined with the Director of Northview Next.

Evaluation:

  • Annual evaluation performed by the Director of Northview Next using the evaluation rubric as identified in the Paraprofessional contractual agreement.
  • Posted until 09/15/2026 or until filled
