Job Goal: Guide the development and implementation of the district’s strategic vision and direction in

alignment with district policies.

Supervises: Directly or indirectly, every district employee

  • Proven experience in transformational leadership within large, complex systems

  • Broad and diversified experience in education, with instructional experience
  • Master’s degree in a related field; advanced degree (e.g., Ed.S., Ed.D., Ph.D.)

Essential Duties:

The essential duties and responsibilities of the Superintendent are to:

  • Serve as administrative head of the entire District and chief executive officer of the Board, in charge of both educational and business functions;
  • Attend all regular meetings of the Board, unless excused by the President of the Board, and keep the Board continually informed on the progress and condition of the schools;
  • Carry out policies and rules of the Board;
  • Initiate matters of educational policy and to make definite recommendations thereon;
  • Recommend the number and types of positions required to provide proper personnel for the operation of education programs;
  • Nominate for appointment, assignment, transfer, or termination and to define the duties of all personnel, subject to approval of the Board;
  • Recommend, in writing, the teachers necessary for the schools; and
  • Suspend a teacher or administrator for cause until the Board may consider the
