SUMMARY: Kenowa Hills High School serves students in grades 9–12 with a strong commitment to academic excellence, personal development, and community engagement. Our Health and Physical Education department focuses on empowering students to take responsibility for their own health and well-being through lifelong fitness habits and wellness literacy. We are anticipating an opening at Kenowa Hills High School due to a retirement for part of the school year.
QUALIFICATIONS: We are looking for an energetic educator passionate about wellness, fitness, and health education.
- Must hold a valid State of Michigan teaching certificate with Health, Physical Education, and Recreation (MA/MX) endorsement appropriate for the high school level.
- Certification: Must hold a valid State of Michigan teaching certificate with Health (MA) and/or Physical Education (
MB/MX
) endorsements. - Experience or background in strength and conditioning or athletic performance development preferred; relevant certifications (e.g.,
CSCS, NASM-CPT, ACE-CPT, or equivalent) or equivalent) preferred but not required.
- Wellness Leadership: Passionate about inspiring high school students to engage in physical activity, personal health management, and interdisciplinary wellness learning.
- Instructional Knowledge: Knowledge of standards-based, proficiency-based instructional practices for both gymnasium and classroom health environments.
- Curriculum Implementation: Ability to effectively deliver and manage structured programs, including the KISD-provided Health Curriculum and the Ref Reps Officiating Education system.
- Diversity Competence: Required knowledge of skills and abilities related to diversity and cultural competence.
- Knowledge of standards-based, proficiency-based instructional practices in a fitness and classroom-based health setting preferred. Required knowledge of skills and abilities related to diversity and cultural competence.
- Self-Awareness: Knowledge of own competence in the area of diversity and how this influences own behavior and a desire to learn about others' identities.
- Classroom & Gym Management: Ability to establish and enforce safety and management procedures consistent with building and district protocol in large-group settings.
- Instructional Design: Prepare course objectives and outlines for Health and PE courses following curriculum guidelines or requirements of state and school.
- Prepare course objectives and outlines following KISD Health curriculum guidelines and Ref Reps certification requirements.
- Assessment & Evaluation: Observe and evaluate student physical performance, health literacy, and social development; report to parents as needed and required.
- Environment Prep: Prepare gymnasium, weight room, and classroom equipment for daily activities ensuring all safety protocols are met.
- Program Delivery: Plan and conduct activities for a balanced program of fitness and health education that provides students with opportunities to investigate personal wellness and vocational officiating skills.
- Design and deliver instruction that promotes lifelong fitness, student wellness, and physical literacy, while supporting a range of abilities from foundational movement skills to advanced performance development.
- Student Motivation: Use a variety of media, fitness technology, and instructional methods to motivate students to participate and maximize instructional time.
