Overview
ATest Systems Engineer is responsible for the design, build, and maintenance of inline and end-of-line (EOL) automated test systems used in the production of LED lighting and other electronic assemblies. This role blends electronic design, automation, and system integration while collaborating with Engineering, Manufacturing, and Quality to ensure test systems are reliable, repeatable, and aligned with product performance requirements. The position requires strong hands-on aptitude, troubleshooting ability, and attention to detail.
It’s ideal for someone eager to grow into a more advanced test or electrical engineering role. The right candidate is resourceful, self-directed, and thrives in a fast-paced, technical environment.
- Design, develop, and maintain automated test systems (bed of nails, inline and end-of-line fixtures).
- Collaborate with electrical and mechanical engineers to define test requirements and integrate hardware/software interfaces.
- Program and debug test control software. (C#, Python, or similar)
- Develop test protocols and data collection processes for light output, color, beam shape and electrical performance.
- Document test procedures and calibration processes.
- Support quality and production by diagnosing test related issues and leading root cause analysis.
- Evaluate and specify sensors, data acquisition equipment and instrumentation for new test setups.
- Use PFMEAs to anticipate and mitigate potential product failure modes through test coverage.
- Assemble, wire and validate test fixtures based on key performance criteria.
- Design with scalability in mind to support future product and volume expansion.
- Continuously evaluate test systems to improve efficiency, accuracy and reliability.
- Maintain test equipment to ensure uptime and measurement consistency.
- Works with Quality personnel to support tester gauge R&R’s.
- Experienced in developing and maintaining inline and end of line test systems for electronic or electromechanical products.
- Demonstrates versatility across disciplines – comfortable working with electrical, mechanical and software.
- Naturally curious and hands on; enjoys tinkering, self-directed learning and exploring electronics, IoT or hobby projects.
- Approaches testing with a failure mode mindset – anticipates weaknesses and designs systems to detect them.
- Motivated by continual learning: a self-starter who proactively acquires new skills and thrives in environments where learning on the job is valued.
- Strong attention to detail and analytical thinking; sees opportunities for improvement in both product and process.
- Collaborative communicator who works effectively across functions to improve reliability and efficiency.
- Experience with optical sensors, LED measurements, or machine vision systems preferred.
- Familiar with data logging and traceability systems.
- 2+ years in a technical or production test environment (electronics, automation, or data acquisition).
- Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics and wiring diagrams.
- Programming experience in C#, Python, or similar.
- Experience with KiCad or similar EDA tools.
- Mechanical aptitude to design and assemble test fixtures.
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
- Familiar with product development life cycles, software testing methodologies, and quality management systems (QMS).
- Proficient in Microsoft Excel; capable of organizing and analyzing technical data.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, including creation of clear technical documentation.
- Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively with all levels of staff.
- Experience using lab instrumentation and measurement equipment.
- Able to work independently and manage multiple projects within tight deadlines.
