Our client is seeking a CAD Designer to support Design, Development, and Sustaining (Product) Engineering initiatives. This role plays a critical part in shaping the physical design, functionality, and manufacturability of mechanical components and finished products. The CAD Designer will partner closely with engineering and cross-functional teams to deliver high-quality designs from concept through production and sustainment.
This position is ideal for a hands-on designer who enjoys collaborating across disciplines, solving complex problems, and seeing their designs come to life in real-world applications.
Projects You’ll Work On- Designing and refining complex mechanical components and assemblies using advanced 3D modeling tools
- Supporting new product development, product updates, and sustaining engineering efforts
- Creating prototype components for testing, validation, and pre-production builds
- Participating in design reviews and providing technical input related to safety, function, and manufacturability
- Contributing to product cost analysis and supporting engineering change activities
- Collaborating closely with engineers, project managers, lab technicians, manufacturing, and purchasing teams
- Developing detailed 3D models and production-ready drawings using Autodesk design tools
- Applying Design for Manufacturing (DFM) and Design for Assembly (DFA) principles throughout the design process
- Performing tolerance stack-ups, validation, and detailed design analysis
- Reviewing and critiquing designs for performance, safety, failure modes, and customer requirements
- Preparing and managing Engineering Change Orders (ECOs) and related technical documentation
- Creating, maintaining, and updating Bills of Materials (BOMs) aligned with project scope
- Assisting project leaders with cost analysis for new and revised components and assemblies
- Managing technical documentation within PLM/PDM systems
- Bachelor’s degree in Product Design or Design Technology with 3+ years of experience
- Associate’s degree in Drafting/Design Technology with 5+ years of experience
- Advanced proficiency with Autodesk design tools
- Strong working knowledge of GD&T, sheet metal design, weldments, and plastic part design
- Experience with PLM/PDM platforms preferred
- Ability to manage multiple priorities, meet deadlines, and work independently
- Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills
- A creative, self-motivated mindset with a passion for problem-solving and teamwork
