Role OverviewWe are seeking a motivated Application Engineer with a strong background in EV drivetrain and battery technology to support and grow our battery test business in North America.
In this customer-facing role, you will support pre-sales activities, system demonstrations, customer training, and technical collaboration related to integrated battery test solutions. These solutions are typically deployed in EV powertrain and battery verification environments and are often delivered in collaboration with local system integration partners. This role supports customers across the United States, Mexico, and Canada and plays a key part in driving technical credibility, customer success, and market feedback for future product development.

- Dual reporting to:
- Senior Manager, TAKASAGO, Japan
- Supported by U.S. sales and service teams and global engineering teams in Austria and Japan
The successful candidate will receive product training and strategic guidance from TAKASAGO prior to and during the role.
Responsibilities:- Partner with Regional Sales Managers and Business Development Managers to engage prospective customers
- Deliver detailed product presentations and on-site or lab-based demonstrations
- Perform requirements gathering and develop customer-specific system configurations
- Support system installations when required
- Provide application expertise, demonstrations, and technical training to customers
- Establish subject-matter expertise in battery test through conference presentations, technical papers, and publications
- Operate and maintain demonstration equipment in the test lab (Morgan Hill, CA)
- Act as a technical liaison between local sales teams and global R&D and product management teams in Japan and Austria
- Provide structured customer feedback and communicate market requirements to product development
- Support local system integration partners with technical expertise
- Support regional trade shows and industry events
- Participate in technical webinars and marketing initiatives
- Contribute to technical white papers and other customer-facing materials
- Monitor industry trends, competitive activity, and evolving customer requirements to support strategic planning
Required
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related technical field (or equivalent experience)
- 3–5 years of relevant experience (Application Engineer, Test Engineer, Development Engineer, or Support Engineer) in EV powertrain or battery technology
- Strong understanding of:
- EV powertrain architectures (motors, inverters, controllers)
- Battery management systems (BMS)
- High-voltage safety and thermal management
- Familiarity with automotive standards (ISO 26262, SAE, IEC)
- General knowledge of test equipment hardware/software configuration and test systems
- Strong communication and presentation skills, with the ability to explain complex technical concepts clearly
- Self-motivated, customer-focused, and comfortable working in an international, collaborative environment
- Willingness to travel approximately 20–40% across North America
- Willingness to travel to Japan and Austria for training
Preferred
- Experience with test automation software
- Knowledge of power supply architectures and features
- Experience with power measurement techniques, power analyzers, and data acquisition systems
- Exposure to sales support or technical pre-sales activities
