Job Title: Test Engineer – High Voltage Battery (HVB)
Location: Remote (Michigan-based preferred)
Travel: Domestic travel required
Work Mode: Remote with travel to test facilities
Role Overview:
We are seeking a High Voltage Battery (HVB) Test Engineer to support component and subsystem hardware validation activities. This role is responsible for executing a robust design validation process to ensure high-voltage battery systems meet functional, durability, reliability, and safety requirements. The ideal candidate is hands-on, detail-oriented, and experienced in battery validation within an automotive or advanced mobility environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Execute Design Validation Plans and Reports (DVP&R) for high-voltage battery systems, covering mechanical, environmental, performance, compliance, and abuse testing.
- Participate in regular cross-functional DVP meetings and provide clear test status and progress updates.
- Create and maintain detailed test documentation, including DVP&Rs, test procedures, RFQs, and test reports.
- Travel to internal and external test facilities to review test setups and ensure proper execution.
- Identify appropriate test assets, fixtures, sensors, and data acquisition systems to ensure accurate and reliable test data.
- Support DUT teardowns and post-test failure analysis.
- Analyze test data and generate graphs, charts, tables, calculations, and technical summaries.
- Perform preliminary root cause analysis for test failures, verifying procedures, setups, and DUT conditions.
- Design and develop test fixtures required for validation activities.
- Manage validation schedules, identify critical path items, and ensure test readiness and asset availability.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
- 3+ years of experience in high-voltage battery testing or validation.
- Familiarity with HV battery standards such as UN 38.3, UL 2580, SAE J2464, SAE J2929, ECE R100, IEC 60068-2.
- Experience working with DFMEA and structured root cause analysis methodologies.
- Experience with requirements management tools (e.g., Polarion or equivalent).
- Hands-on experience with laboratory and measurement equipment, including:
- DAQ systems
- Power supplies and electronic loads
- Accelerometers and thermocouples
- CAN, LIN, and automotive Ethernet
- Familiarity with project management tools such as JIRA and Kanban methodologies.
