Packaging Engineer

Akkodis is seeking a Packaging Engineer for a client in the Grand Rapids, MI area. This is an onsite contract position with a pay range of $35 an hour to $40 an hour depending on education, experience and location. The candidate will support the launch of a new avionics product by designing, validating, and industrializing unit-level packaging and material flow.

• Design unit and intermediate packaging for a new electronics product (including cushions, inserts, labels, and containers) with focus on EHS, quality, cost, and transport robustness.
• Define and validate special carriers (returnable containers, fixtures, lifters) for handling and shipment in coordination with suppliers and logistics partners.
• Run trials (drop tests, vibration assessments, fit checks) and document results, ensuring compliance with customer, regulatory, and export requirements.
• Bachelor’s degree in Packaging Engineering, Mechanical/Industrial Engineering, or related field; or equivalent experience.
• 3+ years of experience in packaging engineering or industrialization in aerospace, automotive, electronics, or similar high-reliability industry.
• Experience designing and validating packaging for fragile, high-value, or electronic/avionic components.
• Demonstrated experience with:
• Packaging design tools and basic CAD (e.g., for dunnage and carrier concepts)
• Creating work instructions and standard work for shop-floor operations
• Working with logistics providers and/or specialized carriers
• Familiarity with lean tools (value stream mapping, 5S, standard work, flow/pull) and EHS/ergonomic principles.
