Survey​/CAD Technician

Position: Survey / CAD Technician
We are seeking a versatile Survey/CAD Technician to join our team. This role is designed for a technical professional who excels at transforming field data into high-quality construction plans and legal surveys. You will be the bridge between raw data collection and final client deliverables, utilizing industry-leading software.

A significant portion of this role involves interacting with the general public via phone or email and providing accurate quotes for various surveying services.

Essential Responsibilities

CAD Composition & Design

* Draft and design comprehensive Construction Plans, Boundary Surveys, and ALTA/NSPS Land Title Surveys using AutoCAD Civil 3D.

* Process and integrate topographic data, utility information, and property boundaries into cohesive project models.

* Ensure all drawings comply with company standards and client requirements.

Data Management & Survey Support

* Reduce and check field notes and data from Trimble equipment (GPS/GNSS, Total Stations).

* Perform coordinate geometry (COGO) calculations for boundary resolution.

* Maintain organized digital project files and survey records.

Public Relations & Estimating

* Act as a primary point of contact for general public requests for survey quotes.

* Evaluate client requirements and research property records to provide formal quotes for boundary and ALTA surveys.

* Communicate technical survey concepts to non-technical clients with clarity and professionalism.

UAS (Drone) Operations & Photogrammetry

* Serve as the backup to our current UAS lead.

* Plan and execute autonomous flight missions using DJI Drones for aerial data collection.

* Process raw aerial imagery into point clouds, orthomosaics, and 3D models using Pix4D.

* Extract topographic features from UAS data to supplement traditional ground surveys.

Knowledge, Skills and Competencies

* Software Proficiency:
Advanced experience in AutoCAD Civil 3D is required.

Experience with Pix4D or similar photogrammetry software is preferred.

Experience with ArcGIS Pro and ArcGIS Online a plus.

* Hardware Knowledge:
Familiarity with Trimble survey products (Business Center, Access) and DJI enterprise-level drones.

* Licensing: FAA Part 107 Remote Pilot Certificate a plus.

* Technical

Skills:

Strong understanding of land surveying principles, including boundary law, legal descriptions, and construction staking. Strong attention to detail.

* Soft Skills:

Exceptional communication skills and a "customer-first" mentality for providing quotes and managing client expectations. Establish and maintain positive working relationships with colleagues and clients.

Work Environment

The CAD/Survey Technician works 80-90% in the office doing drafting, data processing, and client consultation and
10-20% in the field doing occasional site visits and drone flight operations. There can be a considerable amount of travel to and from job sites but does not require any overnight stays. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus. The noise level in the office environment ranges from low to moderate.

The noise level in the field ranges from moderate to loud. The CAD/Survey Technician must frequently lift up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift up to 35 pounds or more.

Education and Experience

Minimum:

* High School Diploma or GED

* 1+ year of experience using CAD software.

Preferred:

* Associate degree or higher in Drafting Technology, Surveying Technology or related field.

* 2+ years of progressively responsible applicable experience.
