Overview
Akkodis is seeking a Packaging Engineer for a Contract Position with our client in Aerospace/Avionics, located in Grand Rapids, MI. Pay Range: $60/hr to $75/hr on W2. The pay may be negotiable based on experience, education, geographic location, and other factors.

• Job Type: Contract
- Understand packaging design and transportation of product to end client
- Must have experience with Transportation of Large packages. Know who and how to ship these large packages. Know the right couriers.
- Understand packaging for transportation
- Design of Transportation routes
- Domestic and Truck shipments
- DOT regulated with shipping Lithium Batteries
- Experience with Transit times if possible
- Experience with Wind Chill or other PDM systems
- Electronics packaging is preferred but not required
Education
- Bachelor Degree preferred but not required
- Bachelor’s degree in Packaging Engineering, Mechanical/Industrial Engineering, or related field; or equivalent experience
- 3+ years of experience in packaging engineering or industrialization in aerospace, automotive, electronics, or similar high-reliability industry
- Experience designing and validating packaging for fragile, high-value, or electronic/avionic components
- Packaging design tools and basic CAD (e.g., for dunnage and carrier concepts)
- Creating work instructions and standard work for shop-floor operations
- Working with logistics providers and/or specialized carriers
- Familiarity with lean tools (value stream mapping, 5S, standard work, flow/pull) and EHS/ergonomic principles
Experience with aerospace or defense packaging standards, export compliance, and customer-specific requirements.
- Hands-on experience with returnable packaging, special carriers, and in-cell packaging/inspection flows
- Prior participation in kaizen events or Shingijutsu-style transformations
Demonstrates Respect for People by designing safe, ergonomic packaging and involving operators in problem-solving.
- Drives Continuous Improvement through data-driven experimentation and standardization
- Acts with a Customer-Driven mindset, designing packaging and routes that protect product quality and meet delivery and cost expectations
