Job Summary

GE Aerospace’s Platform Software team builds embedded software powering critical avionics functions across civil and military aircraft. The Lead Engineer – Embedded Software Development will design, implement, and verify embedded software for one or more platform product areas, growing into a technical lead/subject‑matter expert.

Responsibilities
  • Design, implement, and integrate embedded C software on GE Aerospace computing hardware and RTOS platforms.
  • Collaborate with Systems and Hardware engineers to refine software requirements and interfaces.
  • Develop unit and integration tests, and support hardware‑in‑the‑loop testing to verify software functionality.
  • Participate in DO‑178C certification activities, including producing and reviewing design, code, and test artifacts.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve integration, lab, and flight test issues.
  • Own a product area (e.g., RTOS integration, BSP, boot loader, or common services), developing deep technical knowledge and contributing to design documentation.
  • Work with cross‑functional teams—Systems, Hardware, Safety, Security, Quality, and Certification—to ensure robust, certifiable solutions.
  • Provide peer reviews, guidance, and mentorship to junior engineers as expertise grows.
  • Drive improvements in development and verification processes, tools, and automation, supporting Product Line Engineering concepts and reuse.
  • Apply Lean and Agile practices to deliver high‑quality software on time.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Software Engineering, Computer Science, or related discipline.
  • 4+ years of embedded real‑time software development experience.
  • Strong proficiency in

    C.
  • Experience developing for real‑time operating systems or bare‑metal targets.
  • Hands‑on experience in a safety‑critical, high‑reliability or highly regulated environment (e.g., avionics, automotive, medical, defense).
  • U.S. citizenship required.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience on one or more DO‑178B/C projects (development or verification, any DAL level).
  • Exposure to ARINC‑653 integrated modular avionics (IMA) or other partitioned RTOS.
  • Experience with built‑in test (BIT/BITE), health monitoring, or low‑level board support (BSP/firmware).
  • Familiarity with DO‑254, DO‑297, ARP‑4754/4754A or similar systems/hardware standards.
  • Experience working in Agile/Scrum teams.
  • Master’s degree in an engineering‑related field.
  • Strong communication skills and interest in mentoring and technical leadership.
Travel & Location

Up to 10% travel to customers, GE, and supplier sites may be required annually.

Location:

Grand Rapids, MI – hybrid work schedule (office Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday) with an extensive corporate relocation package available for eligible candidates.

Compensation & Benefits
  • Base pay range: $95,000 – $127,000.
  • Annual discretionary bonus based on a percentage of base salary.
