Civil Engineer / Project Manager – Water Resources
Location: Grand Rapids, MI
Employment Type: Full-Time
Fishbeck is seeking a talented and motivated civil engineer / project manager to join our Infrastructure Division. This role involves supporting a wide range of water resources projects, including stormwater and floodplain design from initial study through construction. The ideal candidate is a licensed professional with strong technical expertise, a client‑focused mindset, and the ability to lead and manage projects while mentoring team members and delivering high‑quality solutions.
WhatYou'll Work On
- Engage with both potential and existing clients to build and maintain strong relationships.
- Develop proposals, project plans, scopes, and schedules.
- Manage the design, development, and implementation of water resources projects.
- Design stormwater management, drainage systems, stream restoration, and floodplain projects.
- Perform hydrologic and hydraulic analyses and modeling.
- Oversee construction contract administration and provide project leadership.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to deliver integrated project solutions.
- Mentor and support the development of junior staff.
- Participate in professional organizations and networking opportunities to support business development.
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Civil or Environmental Engineering.
- Licensed Professional Engineer (PE).
- 8+ years of experience in stormwater and/or floodplain management.
- Strong background in hydrologic and hydraulic modeling (HEC‑RAS, EPA SWMM, TR‑55).
- Experience with Civil 3D and ArcGIS.
- Knowledge of stormwater management, floodplain management, and related regulatory frameworks (e.g., Michigan Drain Code, EGLE permitting).
- Proven ability to manage projects and interact with clients.
- Strong communication, problem‑solving, and organizational skills.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to occasionally lift, sit, stand, and walk for extended periods.
- Capability to work in both office and field environments.
- Ability to travel to project sites as needed.
- Visual acuity and coordination necessary to perform engineering tasks and field observations.
