Job DescriptionThe purpose of this job is to perform a wide variety of engineering support tasks. Inspects construction sites for soil erosion and sedimentation control compliance. Maintains records pertaining to site visits. Enforces soil erosion control ordinance. Assists customers with inquiry and maintains records of inspections. Essential Duties & Responsibilities The intent of this job description is to provide a representative summary of the major duties and responsibilities performed by employees in this job.

- Inspects construction sites for soil erosion and sedimentation control compliance; ensures all external elements are in place in accordance with the approved plans
- Drafts plans for various engineering improvements and installations; prepares construction drawings based on engineer's notes, survey notes, field and records research and engineering calculations; updates utility maps, street number systems maps, plats, subdivision, and other engineering records based on "as built", survey notes and other information
- Inspects demolition sites for grade, proper fill, debris, and collateral damage to sidewalks, drive approaches, curbs and roads
- Investigates and enforces complaints about liquid and solid environmental pollutants and infractions cause by them
- Attempts to collect unpaid fees and fines and connection with soil erosion and storm water activities
- Coordinates with Planning, Zoning, Building and permit holders to gain compliance with the regulations in each department
- Maintains a variety of records pertaining to utility and other public facilities and projects
- Provides maps, plans, drawings and sketches to contractors, engineers, consultants and co-workers
- Operates surveying equipment; records measurements and other data; locates center lines and property lines; sets grade stakes and other markers and reference points
- Researches records to determine property ownership and obtain other relevant information; conducts research of engineering plans showing underground utilities and other city facilities and provides information to contractors, consultants, property owners and others
- Performs related work as required
Required Education and Experience
- High School diploma (or GED equivalent)
--AND--
- Two (2) years of experience in surveying, drafting, construction inspection, or related work
--OR--
- Any equivalent combination of training, education, and experience that provides the required skills, knowledge and abilities
Required Certifications (Specific to the position in Environmental Services)
- State of Michigan EGLE Construction Stormwater Operator certification
