Overview
The Transportation Engineer 9-12 (Signals Engineer) position in Michigan's Grand Region is responsible for coordinating and enhancing traffic signal operations, providing technical expertise on electronic traffic devices, and advancing arterial management throughout the region. The role supports the West Michigan Transportation Operations Center, Intelligent Transportation Systems programs, and pilot projects focused on safety and mobility, with opportunities to work with advanced signal technologies and connected vehicle initiatives.
Responsibilities- Coordinate and enhance traffic signal operations within the region.
- Provide technical expertise on electronic traffic devices and related signaling systems.
- Advance arterial management and support ITS programs and pilot projects focused on safety and mobility.
- Collaborate with the West Michigan Transportation Operations Center and participate in connected vehicle initiatives and related advanced signal technologies.
- Contribute to program development and implementation of traffic signal projects and innovations.
- Bachelor of Science degree in engineering
- Valid driver s license required and must be maintained throughout employment
- Experience with transportation systems and programs (level determined by position level from entry to advanced)
- Professional Engineer (PE) license may substitute for up to 6 months of experience
- Ability to coordinate technical expertise on traffic signals and electronic traffic devices
