Position Overview
We're seeking an experienced Senior Controls Engineer to provide technical leadership for automation and controls within a high-volume manufacturing environment. In this role, you'll work alongside Controls Engineers and Engineering Technicians to improve equipment reliability, implement new automation solutions, support capital projects, and drive continuous improvement across the plant.
This position offers a blend of hands-on engineering, project leadership, and collaboration with cross-functional teams to improve manufacturing performance.
Responsibilities
- Provide technical leadership and mentorship to Controls Engineers and Engineering Technicians.
- Design, program, commission, and optimize PLC-based automation systems for manufacturing equipment.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives using Lean Manufacturing and Six Sigma principles.
- Collaborate with Production, Maintenance, Quality, Manufacturing Engineering, and Product Development teams to implement new equipment and process improvements.
- Lead controls-related capital projects from concept through installation and startup.
- Troubleshoot complex automation issues and provide technical support to minimize downtime.
- Maintain controls documentation, software backups, electrical schematics, and engineering change records.
- Ensure compliance with applicable safety standards, electrical codes, and engineering best practices.
- Design, integrate, install, and continuously improve manufacturing equipment and automation systems.
- Coordinate with equipment vendors and system integrators during equipment design, build, and commissioning.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Controls Engineering, or a related discipline.
- 10+ years of experience in industrial automation.
- Strong experience with PLC programming (Allen-Bradley preferred).
- Experience with HMI development, industrial networking, robotics, servo systems, motion control, and VFDs.
- Experience leading automation or capital equipment projects within a manufacturing environment.
- Strong troubleshooting and root cause analysis skills.
- Proficiency with AutoCAD or AutoCAD Electrical.
- Experience with machine vision systems (such as Cognex or Keyence) is a plus.
- Experience with welding automation or laser welding is a plus.
