Job Description

The Progressive Companies Summer Internship Program is a paid, full-time experience designed to launch your career. You'll take part in hands-on client projects, sharpen your problem-solving and communication skills, and gain a front-row seat to the world of architecture, design, engineering, and construction. Working alongside experienced mentors in a multi-disciplinary firm setting, you'll learn the tools and methods that build a strong foundation for your future career.

Along the way, you'll take part in project site visits, volunteer outings, networking opportunities, and education sessions – all designed to fuel your career and your curiosity.

As a Mechanical Engineering Intern, you will work collaboratively with project managers and mechanical engineers to design mechanical systems for various project building types- primarily HVAC & plumbing design systems. Typical work includes preparing design documents utilizing load analysis, equipment sizing, ductwork sizing, and hydronic systems using AutoCAD and Revit software.

Responsibilities:

  • Contribute to the project team to help meet project schedules and budgets.
  • Manage multiple projects in a timely, accurate manner, monitoring progress against project scope and available resources.
  • Provide drafting services and final engineering documents consistent with Progressive’s standards.
  • Assist in preparing building models, contract documents, and load and equipment sizing analyses consistent with Progressive Companies standards.
  • Check code compliance information as it relates to the discipline and any effect it may have on other disciplines.
  • Collaborate with project managers, designers, and architects to understand changes to project design, scope, schedule, and budget.
  • Use design software, including Revit, AutoCAD, and BSD Speclink, for presentation and production purposes.

Qualifications:

  • Enrollment in an EAC/ABET-accredited Mechanical Engineering Bachelor’s degree program.
  • At least one year of undergraduate studies completed by Summer 2027.
  • Previous Revit experience strongly preferred.
  • Basic knowledge of sustainability and other trends in the design/construction industry.
  • Strong math, analytical, design and problem-solving skills, and ability to communicate well.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel and Outlook required.

    Experience in Project, SharePoint, and Teams preferred
