Medical Laboratory Scientist – 30 hrs – Midnights
Join Henry Ford Macomb Hospital as a Medical Laboratory Scientist in a fast‑paced, community‑focused environment. This 30‑hour night position involves performing routine and complex analytic procedures on blood and other body fluids, utilizing manual techniques or laboratory instruments and information systems.
Responsibilities- Perform routine and complex biological, chemical, cytological, hematological, histologic, immunological, microscopic, and/or bacteriological tests on laboratory specimens.
- Apply independent clinical judgment to take action and develop solutions, collaborating with leadership staff to improve processes.
- Evaluate instrument performance and quality control results to ensure accuracy and reliability of all analytic data prior to release.
- Correlate results with other lab data and/or disease states, identifying technical, instrument, pharmacologic, and/or physiologic causes of unexpected test results.
- Perform calibration, preventive maintenance, quality control, and troubleshooting of laboratory equipment, instruments, and laboratory information systems.
- Maintain compliance with departmental and institutional policies, quality assessment and improvement, safety, environmental, and infection control procedures.
- Participate in quality assessment and improvement activities such as proficiency testing, data gathering for quality assurance, and quality improvement committees.
- Maintain the laboratory and procedures in inspection‑ready condition.
- Minimum of a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university.
- Coursework must align with duties of a Medical Laboratory Scientist (as listed on the ASCP website) or possess a categorical scientist level certification (BB, C, CG, CT, M, MB, AAB, AMT).
- Requires six months of experience in a medical laboratory setting.
- Demonstrated technical proficiency and theoretical knowledge sufficient to perform laboratory functions.
- Perform all routine and complex analytical procedures, including calibration, maintenance, and troubleshooting of instruments.
- Interpret and report analytical results in a timely manner.
- Adhere to safety, environmental, and infection control policies.
Ann Arbor, MI – $67,808.00–$98,425.60 per year (approximate range).
