Medical Laboratory Scientist – 30 hrs – Midnights

Join Henry Ford Macomb Hospital as a Medical Laboratory Scientist in a fast‑paced, community‑focused environment. This 30‑hour night position involves performing routine and complex analytic procedures on blood and other body fluids, utilizing manual techniques or laboratory instruments and information systems.

• Perform routine and complex biological, chemical, cytological, hematological, histologic, immunological, microscopic, and/or bacteriological tests on laboratory specimens.
• Apply independent clinical judgment to take action and develop solutions, collaborating with leadership staff to improve processes.
• Evaluate instrument performance and quality control results to ensure accuracy and reliability of all analytic data prior to release.
• Correlate results with other lab data and/or disease states, identifying technical, instrument, pharmacologic, and/or physiologic causes of unexpected test results.
• Perform calibration, preventive maintenance, quality control, and troubleshooting of laboratory equipment, instruments, and laboratory information systems.
• Maintain compliance with departmental and institutional policies, quality assessment and improvement, safety, environmental, and infection control procedures.
• Participate in quality assessment and improvement activities such as proficiency testing, data gathering for quality assurance, and quality improvement committees.
• Maintain the laboratory and procedures in inspection‑ready condition.

• Minimum of a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university.
• Coursework must align with duties of a Medical Laboratory Scientist (as listed on the ASCP website) or possess a categorical scientist level certification (BB, C, CG, CT, M, MB, AAB, AMT).
• Requires six months of experience in a medical laboratory setting.
• Demonstrated technical proficiency and theoretical knowledge sufficient to perform laboratory functions.

• Perform all routine and complex analytical procedures, including calibration, maintenance, and troubleshooting of instruments.
• Interpret and report analytical results in a timely manner.
• Adhere to safety, environmental, and infection control policies.
