Overview
Under the direction of a Registered Pharmacist, assists pharmacists in preparing and distributing medications, maintaining drug inventory, and maintaining patient records. Provides courteous, cooperative, and timely service to patients, visitors, and staff.

Education- Minimum:
High School education or equivalent. - Preferred:
Completion of formal pharmacy technician training program.
- Minimum:
Pharmacy Technician License (issued by Michigan Licensing and Regulatory Affairs Bureau of Professional Licensing) - Preferred:
Certified Pharmacy Technician by Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB)
- Preferred: 2+ years pharmacy work experience in outpatient pharmacy setting; billing experience.
- Prepares, packages, and distributes medication orders per physician/pharmacist request, or prearranged work assignment in accordance with state and federal rules and regulations and established policies, procedures, or protocols.
- Contributes to effective and quality operation of the department.
- Maintains logs, records, and other required documentation, files documentation.
- Completes third party adjudication for prescription claims.
- Utilizes computerized prescription dispensing system to complete the following aspect of filling patient prescriptions:
- Create patient profiles.
- Prescription data input
- Third party/insurance processing
- Prescription refilling
- Incoming and outbound calls with patients, provider teams and third parties.
- Order packaging and scheduling deliveries.
- Perform simple pharmaceutical calculations including, but not limited to, days’ supply and weight-based dosing calculations.
- Collect payments using point-of-sale system.
- Participate in the training, education, precepting, and evaluation of pharmacy students and/or residents as assigned.
- Excellent customer service skills.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
