Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS) – Travel Contract

Location: Grand Rapids, MI

Start Date: ASAP

Position Type: Traveler Only

Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS) for a 13‑week travel contract in Grand Rapids, Michigan
. This role is ideal for a qualified traveler who can quickly adapt to a fast‑paced clinical laboratory environment and deliver accurate, timely diagnostic results to support patient care.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform routine and complex laboratory testing in areas such as hematology, chemistry, urinalysis, microbiology, immunology, and blood bank (as applicable)
  • Accurately analyze, document, and report test results using the Laboratory Information System (LIS)
  • Operate, maintain, and troubleshoot laboratory instruments and equipment
  • Follow CLIA, CAP, OSHA
    , and facility quality and safety standards
  • Perform quality control, calibration, and proficiency testing
  • Identify and elevate abnormal or critical results per protocol
  • Ensure proper specimen handling, labeling, and processing
  • Collaborate with physicians, nurses, and laboratory staff to support patient care
  • Adhere to infection control and safety procedures at all times
Requirements
  • Recent experience in a hospital or clinical laboratory setting
  • Strong working knowledge of laboratory procedures and instrumentation
  • Ability to work independently with minimal orientation
  • Excellent attention to detail and time‑management skills
  • Proficiency with LIS systems and basic computer applications
  • Flexibility to work assigned shifts and adapt to facility workflows
Education & Certification
  • Bachelor’s degree in medical laboratory science
    , Clinical Laboratory Science, or related field (required)
  • ASCP certification (MLS/MT) or equivalent (required or facility‑dependent)
  • Must meet Michigan state requirements for laboratory professionals
