Data Scientist

Description

Seeking a Data Scientist to drive personalized customer communications and marketing measurement across enterprise channels, including email and push notifications. This role focuses on optimizing who we reach, what we say, and when we say it, while rigorously measuring incremental impact through experimentation and modeling. You will design and scale systems that deliver targeted, relevant messaging and quantify marketing effectiveness using approaches such as incrementality testing and marketing mix modeling (MMM).

• Build and optimize models for:
  • Audience targeting and segmentation
  • Message personalization (content, timing, frequency)
• Improve customer engagement while avoiding over-saturation
• Partner with Marketing to align messaging strategies with business goals

• Develop systems to determine:
  • Who should receive which message
  • When and through which channel (email vs. push)
• Balance competing objectives (revenue, retention, customer experience)

• Design and execute controlled experiments (holdouts, A/B tests)
• Measure incremental lift in revenue and conversions
• Move beyond vanity metrics (opens, clicks) to causal impact

• Build and maintain MMM frameworks to:
  • Quantify channel contribution
  • Inform budget allocation decisions
• Integrate digital messaging insights into broader enterprise marketing strategy

• Develop models for:
  • Customer propensity (purchase, churn, engagement)
  • Lifetime value (CLV)
• Use these insights to drive smarter targeting and spend efficiency

Python, Machine Learning, Azure ML, A/B Testing, Databricks, SQL

• Advanced Degree (MA/MS, PhD) in Mathematics, Statistics, Economics, or related quantitative field
• Certifications:
  
  Azure Data Science Associate, Azure AI, Safe Agile
• 6+ years of relevant data science experience in an applied role – preferable within retail, logistics, supply chain or CPG. Advanced and hands on experience using:
  Python, Databricks, Azure ML, Azure Cognitive Service, SAS, R, SQL, PySpark, Numpy, Pandas, Scikit Learn, Tensor Flow, PyTorch, AutoTS, Prophet, NLTK
• Experience with Azure Cloud technologies including Azure Dev Ops, Azure Synapse, MLOps, Git Hub
• Solid experience working with large datasets and developing ML/AI systems such as: natural language processing, speech/text/image recognition, supervised and unsupervised learning models, forecasting and/or econometric time series models
• Proactive and action oriented
• Ability to collaborate with, and present to internal and external partners
• Able to learn company systems, processes and tools, and identify opportunities to improve
• Detail oriented and organized
• Ability to meet production deadlines
• Strong communications, interpersonal and organizational skills
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Understanding of intellectual property rights, compliance and enforcement

Expert Level

This is a Contract position based out of Grand Rapids, MI.

The pay range for this position is $70.00 - $90.00/hr.

This is a hybrid position in Grand Rapids, MI.
